Hi!

Happy New Year!

I have not opened and checked my reeds and reed cages for a while. If I am to replace them, which is the best cages and reeds for a Merc 2,5 EFI SS (280 hp with SVS and 260 ignition). Rpms are 7,400-7,500.

What happens if the reeds or / and cages are cracked? I know the idle will be hurt, but I presume both accelleration and top end too will be affected?

Have a nice day! Minus 20 celcius in Norway now and storm. Effective temp is then lower than minus 30 celcius / minus 22 F....

Cheeers, Toffen:smiletest:

Cheers Toffen,

My folks are having GREAT luck with the 5 petal rubber coated Merc. Sport Jet Type reed cages with the .022" thick Tony Doukas Racing Single Petal Reeds applied to that cage. I have several racers that are running that set up turning over 10,000 rpms +++ and this set up has lasted several seasons to these customers amazement through out the race season as well as many test sessions ...

The 5 Petal Sport Jet type reed cages conversion from 7 petal ain't cheap but I find their seal and longevity w/ the TDR reeds applied pays for themselves and is IMO second to NONE on race or recreational applications for long term seal and longevity !

my opinion,
Jay

TDR reeds are great!

If you do turn out to need new reeds and/or cages and can settle for the standard 260/280 7 petal style, I have a bunch on the shelf...

Hi!

How much is for your Sport Jet Type reed gaces and TD Reeds compared to the 5 petal rubber coated Merc types?

My engines running normally very very nice at idle (600 rpms) due to the PCU. How are the Sport Jet Type and TD reeds here?

Cheers, Toffen

The 5 petal Mercury rubber coated reed cage that takes up the same space and will bolt up where the 7 petal went is what I'm refering to ( Came originally in a 240 HP Sport Jet motor years back ) ) ...If you have those and the TDR reeds IMO you can't get any better reed / cage combo...

I like tha rubber coated cages also, but I also have noticed that tha top runners in tha upper classes in DSRA run the 14 peddle cages wit merc single reeds......I'm not knock'in either one, juss make'in a statement on facts that I have noticed on tha big HP make'in mota'z...I personally have used both, and kan't see any reason to spend any extra money on those cages, but thats juss me, I got no money for lugjuriez.....I have 14 peddle HP cages in tha drag on my lil bote now, wit .023" reeds I cut myself, and it runz quite well, and thoze reeds are several yeerz old(I juss wanna see how long they will last, juss for chitz and giggles)....Juss food for thought:thumbsup:
