Hey y'All. I'm looking at a 2000 Pro Max Sport 225. The lower unit "blew", according to the vendor, and the engine is being sold without one. Can anyone tell me whether a lower unit blowing would have any effect on the viability of the rest of the motor? Also, can you give me an idea of the cost to buy and have installed a replacement lower unit? Many thanks, in advance. John.

Depends on what you mean by "Blew"? Did it lock up? Did it just ruin the gears? Is the drive shaft twisted? >>>>>>>.Damage could have been done to the crank shaft spline??????? Don't know based on what you have posted. Cost to replace/repair could be all over the map.

Maybe you'll get other responses. Ever consider becoming a paying member? Only $25.00.

A new sportmaster is big$, I just had to buy one this summer. The list is about $6K but some will make you a discount. Be careful about buying a used sportmaster, it is easy to get screwed and buy one with a bolt-on skeg-tab, twisted off shaft, broken waterpump mount housing.................:(

Thanks boys. It was the ebay boat - went I think for 8k. I'm a paying member on the Checkmate board, since I own one, an I/O. If I ever find a good Ally to satisfy the need, I'll join your crew. Regards.
