If the pump motor stops running the pump motor needs rebuilding. Likley has water in it. Gets hot a shuts off.If the pump motor still runs and the trim rams stop moving you either have air in the system and need to bleed it or a check valve in the system is bad.Open the manual release and run it up and down several times to get any air out. Close the release valve and check it again.

assuming the trim unit isn't corroded to hell and you can actually get it apart, yes brp does make an o-ring and seal kit to rebuild it with. I resealed a friend's 40hp trim unit a while back, but ended up having to replace the small "oil pump assy" itself---a very expensive little hydraulic pump that is driven by the trim motor. his unit was leaking at the trim ram and would sound like it was cavitating when trimming up. attempts to bleed air out of it worked for a few cycles, but every time it would end up sounding like more air got into the system. ended up swapping a oil pump out of another trim unit and it fixed the problem.
come to find out he always had problems since buying the motor new. it was mounted on an aluminum boat with a severe transom angle. due to the angle, about midways up in the trim the pump would suck air even with a full resovoir. I had to move the bottom mounting rod to another hole to correct the problem.
best of luck to you, trim problems SUCK....
