I can tell you that your hull probably doesn't weigh 450lbs. What year is the boat. Some of the newer boats that are built very light can get into the high 400's but I personally haven't heard of one being that light. Are you using the boat for racing or lake riding. If you plan on doing some racing keep in mind that some of the lower classes don't allow 12's.
As for the mid, yes there is a pretty significant weight difference. Nice 15" mids are probably easier to find and with a long trim ram give you the ability to trim the motor up for changing gearcases or beaching the boat. Probably the biggest inconvenience is with a 12" mid you have to do some fab work and finagling to run a shiftable gearcase. The 12" was never meant to run shiftable cases. The 12" mids do look good and save about 60 lbs off the back of the boat

Don't listen too much to those people. Many times the people that say that aren't the most familiar with Allisons. I'm not saying you can take off wide open across two footers but your hull is not some fragile eggshell. Just use a little common sense. You'll know in the drivers seat when its too rough. What year is the boat and do you have any pictures you could post? Who owned it before you?

The 12" mid is 60 or so pounds lighter and looks cool as sh**. The 15 is more user friendly. Only you can make the decision which one you want. What kinda power are you gonna have on it

roddenberry owned it before me and he bought it from a guy that dragged raced it al i know about him is he had a sticker on it said ATEAM racing its a 1999 river rocket green black and white. It is a solid spotless boat. i wish i knew how to put pictures on here. i just blew a 175 and trying to put a 260 carb on there and wanting to do it right within my wallet capabilities.wat do u think

Erik is correct on your boat . It's a River Racer . It's the same as a Drag , but with a little heavier lay up . I think they usualy go 600-650 on those hulls ,but I could be a little high on that . As for the mid , you will enjoy the 15" much more ,and there easier to come by . There are not that many12"mids readly available ,that where ment to have a 2.5 bolted to them . Most of the one you will find ,where built for 2.0 motors ,and it takes a bunch of work to make the tuner plates work correctly with the 2.5 . Your boat being a River Racer is much better suited for lake running then a Drag , but is still not really user freindly around docks ,and launch ramps .

Hey Erik , Heard you where lookin a Little BLUE ,the other day . How'd that work out for you ? Hope to see it soon ,if all went well !

There was never actually a 260 with carbs. Mercury called that block with carbs a 245. As for as the mid goes only you can answer that. I do think the 15" is more user friendly
