I've been looking for a F1 style fuel filler for a while now and maybe some of you guys might know where to find one.
What I'm actually looking for is a large stainless steel door type with a gasket/o-ring underneath it. They have a bunch of screws all the way around the flange.
I've found some cheap imitations at the auto stores, but none the way I want it to be.
The whole idea being a large fuel fill opening for filling with 5 gallon cans (and looking cool too  )
Any ideas?

Not sure what you mean by "F1 style" but it sounds like you want an aircraft fuel cap. Something like this?

Well, not quite. I'm an aircraft maintenance and structures engineer and can get those quite easily.
The one I'm looking for has a hinged door with a push lock, all stainless steel.
I've been told they are a formula 1 style car gas door (maybe from years ago?)
Some of the modern performance cars try to emulate the door I'm looking for, can't think of which one right now.
The aircraft fuel cap may be the way to go if I can't find the one I want though.

Thanks,
Burke

the big ones with just a big thumb button and when ya smack the button the cap pops up and open?
Believe I bought a pair from eddie marine years ago for the Liberty I owned then.

This one is aluminum, but I think it is close, top of page.

have seen them in aluminum, and S.S., and chromed.
Hot setup would be to have them fusioncoated or powdercoated.

I'm sure you will be able to get them here at Tim Seebolds website.

Try www.jazproducts.com

You can probably find what you are looking for there.

You can order Jaz products from Jegs.

Dunno Burke - Current F1 cars use a very specialized high pressure dry-break coupling rig and you are not going to buy one of those. Until these systems were required, refueling had been banned (since '84 or so) and I think they all used regular aircraft hardware since speed didn't matter. I've been a F1 fan since the 60's but I don't remember what they used before '84. You might try a web search to find some F1 vintage racing restoration shops. If you can describe it better they would likely know.

If you want something trick that's a little different you could always use a normal dry-break assembly. You would have to carry around a funnel with a male probe. Or if you always mix and fuel up from five gallon cans you could just rig a up a jug or dump can. ATL and FuelSafe have the stuff.

I thought Kaptain Kirk had it till I looked at the picture.
I've seen them somewhere, I'm not sure where.
They have the flip up lid with a flush thumb button, but the whole assembly is flush mount too.(well, maybe 1/16 to 1/8 proud)
Looking at the links that were there, I may be able to cobble something together from the different manufacturers to get what I want.
The F-1 idea was just a suggestion from someone at work that thought thats what they use.

Thanks guys !!

burke , i know what your talking about , they look just like the cheap ones at the discount and autozone parts stores , there the fakes that the kids put on the import cars. two or three people make them , ive seen the real ones somewhere i know for sure they are made of billet aluminum so maybe search google for billet fuel cap?

Ya, YA, thats it, we're on the right track now !!
I did some pretty extensive searches on the computer................thats why I'm asking here now.
Like you said the "fakes" are available. There had to have been a real one first, for there to be a fake. Maybe it's like the chicken and egg story.........hmmmm

50's and 60's Jags had them, 2 of 'em, one on each side. Single tank, but you could fill from either side. Maybe into the 70's. Don't remember for sure, but know Jaguars had them.

Maybe you could get one off of a heilcopter? I work offshore and fuel them up from time to time. They have a 1/4 turn flip up lever to open them up. Refering to the Bell, 206B/L and 407's.

Trust me, if they hold up offshore in the Gulf of Mexico they'll be just fine on your boat.

Thanks, I'll take a look in that direction.
I just wish I'd remember where I saw one of these before

Here's the "fake" version of the one I'm looking for.
The "real" one has a flush button for opening it up opposite the hinge and a O-ring/seal under the door to keep it weather proof.
This one is just a cover without the fuel fitting for the hose underneath.
