I was running today and lost a little on the top end, got it home took the cowl off, started to flushthe motor and noticed chunks of metal coming from the underside of the flywheel - stator area. Anyone else have this kind of problem? What is it caused from? Motor is a stock 2.4 200, turning a 28 chopper @ 7000. Any ideas?

My guess is top bearing, it's a 6000 rpm rated bearing.:D

Had this issue on an old stinger, one of the bolts that holds the stator started backing out and was hitting the bottom of the fly wheel.

Just in case anyone else has this problem, it ended up being the magnets (all but one) on the flywheel let loose and were grinding on the stator and breaking into pieces. Suprisingly the motor would still run and turn 7grand? Put on a new flywheel and stator, and ran great on the hose, will launch tomorrow and note any differences.

My FIRST thing would have been magnets coming apart... Your lucky one didn't get jammed into the clearance between it and the stator windings.. That could have been a real costly problem... ( Crank, stator, trigger. top bearing perch )

Yeah, I'm really suprised that it held up because I ran it prolly 4 times over a three week period before i realized it was messed up and every time I ran it, it was ran hard. Hard to beat these old mercs, over 20 year old fishin motor turnin 7k.:D

EDIT, with the new stator and flywheel it is actually turning 6200, which makes sense, the old stuff was sending bad info for awhile. Same MPH though. :D

hopefully your top bearing is good and it didn't cause the original problem.....else you will soon find out...
