Anyone in Chas can help me? I want to take a ride out to Morris Island. I plan on putting in at Wappoo Cut. Good place? bad? Coming from Hwy 17 south.
When I get to Morris Island I've seen where many tie up during the summer. What is the water like? Anchor to shore? What of tides and current. we plan on walking the sea side of the beach. Taking some historians out. Any tips? Since it is winter we would hate to get back and find a boat floating offshore or sitting on a mud flat!

You may want to call DNR I think there is a ban on going to Morris Island I know this summer they had problems with boaters trashing the beach and placed a ban on the island.
If there is no ban on the Island and you use Wappoo Cut
the tide moves very fast try to time the tide and put in at dead high or low.

You can definitely find yourself high and dry on Morris Island if you walk away from your boat and the tide is headed out. The water can get pretty big after you round Fort Sumter, it just depends on the day, current, wind and what you're in. It's a pretty cool place, even more so in the summer.

I've seen the water go from glass to a good 3' in a few hours so I will have to pick the day carefully. Will be in a 18 CC.
Is there any where to pull up to where the boat will be safe for a few hours?

Also, talk to the Ft. Sumter boat Capt. He is a good guy and will tell you exactly how to handle it. Always go on the incoming tide. It gives you a lee access to the creek on the backside of the island.
