Anybody ever make a pigtail to go from the new style Merc plug (in the boat) to the old style plug (on the motor)? It would almost be easy other than the new style has 8 plugs and the old has 7. I'm really not wanting to tear out the new style in the boat to put the old style in due to the motor I have and eventually want to get rid of, so I'm inquiring about a pigtail or adapter plug to make up. Would it be possible? Anybody have a diagram of what pins do what on both?

In short, I have the male 8 pin plug running back to the motor, but the old motor uses a female 7 pin plug to plug into the mail recepticle on the '77 Merc and I'm wanting to make an adapter.

Thanks

Dustin

I have taken a harness and changed to another end by just soldering and using heat shrink covering to seal the wires. They can be lengthened by the same method. Do GOOD soldered connections and there should be no problem with it...

I know Mercury make adapters for old to new style You can go to your closest dealer and ask them to look in the parts and acc. guide under rigging and all of the adapters are in there that they have, and if not ask them if they have the manual for you engine an see if they will photo copy the wirring page for you we do things like this all the time for customers , good luck .

Sweet, thanks jbmastertech

XstreamVking - I'm intimately familiar with a soldering iron fortunately, or unfortunately, however you want to look at it lol. Thanks for the advice.

My question for making a pigtail was more so wondering what the extra pin is for etc. and with how the power trim is worked in with the old style?

Something like this is what I'm looking for correct?

It appears so anyway, new mail harness in the boat to the old style motor is what I'm trying to do, this looks like it.

Thanks again all

I think that harness is for a older motor, the ones with the connection in the side of the cowl. What year is yours?

I have an older motor, as in a '77. ;)

Ok, for some reason I thought you had a V-6.
Merc changed them again about 2 years ago.
