No offence, but you really should get an O.E.M. service manual for a job like that. We can tell you how to do it, there'd be a bunch of posts, a little arguing, some saying to do it one way while others will blast them and say to do it another...... you get the picture..... in fact, the manual has all the pictures and specifications...............................

The bum is right. Follow the manual & you'll be good. Otherwise you'll have to listen to a bunch of pissin & moanin about the right way to do things.

Build it back to stock specs and you will have a good motor! Modify it and get ready for the school of hard Knocks! But eihter way its cool to do it yourself! Definetly get the manuel and use the OMC specified sealeants, that one bit me on my first go round , Now 6 new weiscos and im back on the water. Good Luck.

i guess if i had to say what was hardest so far is making sure center main bearings were set just right on the pins once you get it you know they are seated go slow have an extra set of hands it helps:thumbsup:

Did my first boat motor this summer It was a omc V8 not to bad bought the OMC manual and bought my parts from Monty when i had some questions i asked Monty.

One other thing that has not been said yet is to make sure you set up the motor on the lose side of the factory spec's esp when you have it machined. Make sure you have clearance on the bottom of the piston skirt to the bottom of the steel bore. Or more or less make sure they machine all the way down.

Thanks for the advice. Porting has been completed and I hope to get assembly started soon. Will post as i get it together.
Donor motor is a 93 fingerport motor. Mild porting, exh. ports raised a smidge and cleaned up.
I have a used set of slotted rods but am leary of using them as I dont know anything about them or who did the slot work. Have a good set of wiseco std. bore pistons.
Any suggestions on the rods? I am not planning on turning this motor much more than 7500, 8000 at the most. Would the big rods be best?
slotted and/or polished? THANKS

Put a picture up of the rods. I probably would not use them. Little rods are fine for 8k.

The porting was was mild. Just cleaned them up and raised the exhaust a little.
The motor is going on relatively heavy hull (hydrostream vegas xt) so i didnt wanna go too far with it. Only looking to make 270 or so HP. I f the results are good on this motor I would like to put together something a bit more radical for a light hull.

The guy that did the port work is from Mi. and requested that I not put his name out on the site so I will respect his wishes. Most of the folks around these parts know him and his work. I know of atleast 2 members that are running his motors and are very happy with them.
