the deal- A Salty Dog
I bought this deck boat and it has this suzuki on it, the previous owner said the motor was toast and I didnt really care just planned on replacing it, after getting it home I was bored so I decided to check it out, got it running and sounded fine, did a compression check and 147 all holes, im thinking what the heck, put it my little lake and runs fine, great power, good water flow, etc.. Head to the intercoastal to see how it runs and take off , still great, look back and no water flow out the tell tail , just steam.. Throttle back and starts pumping and cools off Idle around and stays cool, any rpm above 1500 it stops pumping.. Go home and change the water pump and try again- same thing .. Pull the thermostat cover and remove whats left of the t-stat, basically just the outer cone..So Im thinking the thermostat pieces are in the head/ cooling jacket but put a socket on the head bolts and no way are they coming out without breaking.. What to do ? Meanwhile I picked up a 200 Merc and plan on putting it on but hate throwing this away.. Im thinking pull the motor off and remove the Lower, turn it upside down and remove the T-Stat cover and High pressure blast from the water tube to remove whatever the obstruction is ... Any thoughts ?
And will the bolt pattern be the same for Merc as well as Throttle Shifter Work and or Steering Cable
Or Cut my losses and quit SUGGESTIONS PLEASE !!!!!!

best of luck. I HATE working on old suzuki's that were in salt. just hope you don't have to pull the exhaust plate/cover, you surely will end up with many broken fasteners....

try to put some "Salt-A-Way" product in the water passage way trying to block off somehow, let sit over night and flush out. have done it before helps some.
ken
ps - use the product straight or dilute some

ON THAT ENGINE THE PORBLEM IS MOST LIKTLY IN THE WATER PUMP AREA. YOU NEED TO LOOK CLOSLY AT THE UPPER BEARING HOUSING WHERE THE LOWER WATER PUMP PLATE SITE ON IT AND MAKE SURE THAT IT IS ALL THERE. ALSO THERE IS A PLATE AND A RUBBER THAT GOES IN THE BACK OF THAT AREA IF THAT IS NOT SEALED PROPERLY IT WILL SUCK AIR WHEN COMMING UP ON PLANE. THIS IS A COMON PROBLEM AND IS OVER LOOK BY MOST.

HERE IS A PIC HOPE THIS HELPS. IF NOT GIVE US A CALL WE WILL BE HERE TILL NOON TODAY AND OPEN SATURDAY TILL NOON. 904 730 3332 SAM

Thanks Sam
You may be on it as I remember the W/P lower housing did have some corrosion, as well as 2 front bolts were crap on the upper impellor housing. thats going to need a broken bolt removed and the other hole will need to be welded and re-tapped, I sealed the chit out out it just to see what the difference was with a new impellor... What about this t-stat issue ? Here's a pic of all that was left..
Also the slow speed rpm's (1500) will change about 500 rpms increase for approx 20 seconds and then drop back down, kinda like a surge but spark is not dropping one cylinder , it runs strong...

AS FAR AS THE T-STAT I AM WITH YOU  NOT SURE WHERE THE PARTS COULD OF GONE BUT REALLY DONT THINK BY THE WAY YOU DECRIBED IT, THAT IS YOUR PROBLEM. LOOK WHERE THE PUMP MOUNTS (UPPER BEARING HOUSING) THERE ARE FOUR PHILPS HEAD SCREWS THAT HOLD IT IN. UNDER THAT IS WHERE THE PROBLEM MOST LIKLY IS. ALSO THE SURG COULD BE DUE TO THE ENGINE GOING IN AND OUT OF THE QUICK START MODE. DUE TO NO T-STAT AND ENGINE TO COLD.

SAM IS CORRECT,WITHOUT A THERMOSTAT the motor will come in and out of coldstart, and the pump housing must be properly sealed or the motor will begin to pump exhaust/air as soon as the motor is sped up enough to blow water out of the midsection,or lift the pump housing above waterline[it cant leak air into it when its underwater].Work thru the problem, you'll like the motor if it's a good one...easy on gas and powerful,as wellk as durable, chris

Thanks For All The Great Responses !!
Not sure what to do with it as I really dont need it, but its pretty clean and runs good, cant see throwing it out, going to fix the pump at least until I get the Merc conversion closer to together..
Make an offer if someone wants it....
