View Full Version : help rigging a v8
Set back and pro's and con's. I would like to cut it down to a 16. and put a sportmaster on it. My boat is a Talon 21:rolleyes:

Pros - big torque, relatively cheap parts, power available if it's worked.
Cons - big weight, stock gearcases suck to run surfaced, electrical parts are getting older/harder to find other than new.

He said he was going to run a sporty. ;)
Check out Taylor Marine (aka Mad EFI). They make a 12" mid that after you put the V8 adapter on it comes to 15" and has a bolt pattern for the Merc gearcase.
You could cut it to 16" but you loose about an inch with the adapter.

Big weight is getting to be a falacy..They weigh the same as an Etec, and 200 lbs less than a Verado, and most 4 strokes..Only the Merc weighs less when you compare power..and Monty can give you great power...and Keith and superbender are right on..

You will love the TQ and the sound of these motors. do pre mix and electric fuel pump as others have said.
That and cut the shift cut. Start it up in gear.

PM me next week when I get back into town and I can give you the phone number for a guy in Chicagoland who can help you a bunch. Goes by the name of Dragon Master. Builds a bunch of reliable horsepower.

yeah i know of the dragon master there is a guy that comes up to bud bash with a two OMC v-6 on the back of a tunnel that had his motors built by them. They sound really good.
I worked with Monty when i built my motor but i was on a budget. I am still working out a few of the bugs.
But i will keep that in mind.
