Im selling my fathers xr6 and had a buyer ask me some questions. Buyer has a 1998 2.5L 200 hp EFI mariner with stock midsection, no lower unit. He asked about compatability in transferring his stock efi components to the xr6 to make it a 200hp efi. Told him I have no idea, but would post question here. Also wanted to thank everyone for imput with my other post on my promax 225 swap, it runs great!!!!

There are differences in the ports and blocks on those two motors. If he went through all the trouble of swapping everything over he would just have an efi 150 and he would still need a different computer cause the 200 ecu would be too rich for the 150

It would seem simpler to put the XR6 lower unit on the 200, and then sell the XR6. Or just buy a lower unit for the 200 and forget about the XR6.

according to him, his 200 powerhead is shot, but his efi components are still good. Im selling the xr6 complete . He is the one who would buy the xr6 complete, put the xr6 powerhead on the 200 mid, with the xr6 lower. He was going with his budget. The price I gave him on the xr6 was lower than a new rebuild/lower unit for his 200. He just wanted to keep the 200 hp rather than the 150hp on the xr6. sounded complicated to me, but whatever floats his boat:cool:

SOME of the XR6's have the same porting as a 200. Some do not. Some XR6's have idle reliefs and some do not. Just like some 200's have idle reliefs. When you look at sleeve applications, some of the XR6's use a LA079 which is the same sleeve used in many 2.5 200's and some 175's. The ports are already cut in the sleeve, thus the porting is the same between these engines. Just different CC heads, carbs, EFI, ect.
The only way to know for sure is to pull a head and look to see if it has a idle relief and measure the exhaust ports. If around 1.600 then it will turn into a 200. If around 1.740 (yes, that low) it will be basicly a EFI 150 and would need a ECU. Just my experiences.
