So I see that the 18 valero speed post has gotten some good reviews so I thought I would give it a shot. I have a 17 concept in the fiberglass section that I am trying to get done by 2/6. I was wondering what speeds I might expect from a stock 2000 200hp johnson (ok I know its not a Mercury) the only prop I have for it is a 25 pitch stainless through hub exaust one, i'll work on getting a better one later. I do have a hyd jack plate for it and no lwp. I don't know the weight of the boat but it is on blocks and stands and I can lift the bow and transom off them. Now I'm a pretty strong guy but I wouldnt say that the weight of either end was over 400lbs. I know that 2 guys could pick each half up before I put the cap and hull back together. The interior seat boxes arent that heavy, approx. 30lbs for the front and 15 for the rear. It has a 18gal fuel tank up in the bow. Thats about all that will go into it with the exception of a few speakers and a radio and rigging. Now Im just looking for guesses, I know they will vary as I see with the valero post. I'm also looking for boat/engine speeds, not what I will be able to fly it at (I need seat time).
Thanks alot guys:D

Had a 17 with stock 200 merc got 91 out of it! but mine was heavy 800lbs you can probably expect 80+ pretty easy but you don't want to go faster than 80 without a nosecone on the lower or it will blowout! let us know when you get it finished and come out and run with us

One quick run on markham park @ 92mph. Probably could of gotten a couple mph more but i was happy with that.

the concept 17 copy of a action is more like the 16 action stretched a few inches. it is narrow like the 16ftaction, not wide like the older 17action. they run good and if you get it set up right they will scare the chit out of you. not to sure how its going to like that heavy looper on the back. i belive and he can correct me if im wrong but the concept hull is the same as action17 boat, and that one ran good with the old c/f, i ran him back at palatika in 02 or 03 with my 17 action with a worked 200 2.5 and lets just say one point for the white team. good luck with your boat and post some pics!

Yup, the concept 17 is just a 16 Action with a pointier nose. I'd be more concerned with the front mounted gas tank than the heavy looper though. You're gonna need a big ole chopper to really air it out.

Thanks for the info. I have pics in the fiberglass discussion under 17 action marine project. I didnt know it was a concept at first just figured it to be a action. I didn't know mutch about them back when I got it. I just wanted an action. The tank was in the front when I got it, but I don't know how well it ran before. I'm going to put the batt. against the transom in the middle to hopefully offset the tank a little. It wont be permanently put in place so I can move it. Bluecheckmate on this site had the same boat (made with wood) with the tank in the back with a Merc on the back, and I'm sure you remember that he sunk it on accident by stepping on the back to check the motor. I really would like to keep it right side up. I will play with it to see how it rides. I appreciate the info. we'll see how it goes. Trying hard to get it done by the shootout on 2/6. Got to get it painted, going down tomorrow to hopefully get it blocked out and primered again. Thanks again.
