I ship ALLOT of parts abroad ( out of the country ) via USPS and yesterday I attempted to ship some parts to Austrailia the post office gal asked me for my paper work ? I said I haven't got it for you yet. She said "you haven't heard about the new policy" I said what policy. She handed me a format that YOU must get on the www.usps.com (http://www.usps.com) and print your own label BEFORE you bring it to the post office. After reading the format you MUST know the weight to complete form. She said it was a customs thing that they wanted to have prior knowledge of what and where you were shipping abroad. I have 4 or 5 packages that I "was" going to ship USPS next week some fairly large ( several to England and some to New Zealand ) BUT I think I'm gonna research my option of using UPS, I have pick up and delivery at the shop EVERYDAY ,I also have the shipping labels that we print on computer. The last time I tried to ship UPS abroad it was VERY user unfriendly with all the converstion info they wanted. Oh well the pain in the keester of being in business and having to use shipping avenues..

I have an account with UPS and "HAD" an account with DHL ... :( I liked DHL the best of the 3 ( DHL,UPS, USPS ) .... If the foreign UPS labeling system gets to goofy I might try FedX ...
Thanks,
Jay

From the receiver perspective, I've had much better luck with FedEx, they are much more consistent charging duty, where as UPS are all over the map.

UPS for sure. They have paperless invoices for customs which is much faster and no hold problems. Good luck with DHL. They are pretty much done in the US

UPS to Canada is a rip off , they charge rediculous clearing fees .They charged me over $20 to clear a gasket . Something worth 200-300 dollars they'll charge $70 or whatever they want no reason to it. The postal system doesn't charge for clearing small items and usually only $5 for larger items. One of the UPS drivers told me to use Fedex. JMO Glen

Jay, the woman at the post office was just being a lazy bitch. I shipped a prop to AUS about a month ago and they did it all right there at the post office. It took them a little longer because it was the first thing they had shipped out with the new forms, but we handled it all right then.

I kinda thought that Bad but those gals kinds got a "tude" anyway about any freight going places other than US destinations. ( Its kinda like arguing with a cop ! NO win situation)
The one I talked to today ( she the one that you'd like to slap the sh** out of , she is pissed when anybody walks in and wants service ) would not even tell me what to expect from the inquires on the web site, she said "hell she didn't she didn't even own a computer" I though yep you country BEOCH I bet you still SH** outside too...
Might have to go to the next small town to mail this freight if I choose to use USPS, most folks from Europe request USPS ????..
Thanks ya'll,
Jay

Maybe the "I Love Fat Chicks" t-shirt you were wearing made her more service minded... :D
Maybe you could send one to Jay so that he could put it on next time he goes to see the country girls at the post office.

Jay the new post office worker is not the worker of yesterday. Most of the caring are gone. Management is made of misfits and they push the employees not to give good service. Its a shame for the post office was always the cheapest. I moved a week ago and have not seen a piece of mail:eek:Rick

Rick said it best. It's no wonder the Postal system in in big $$$$$$$$ trouble. Our USPS branchs around here are the same way. The're never in a hurry to do anything for you, but the're real good at telling you what they won't or can't do for ya..........dealing with USPS SUCKS in every way possible. I think they hire all the rejects from the BMV, now there's another wasted service where you have to prove your a "BITCH" to work there...................

Please don't ship anything to Australia via DHL! Three times I have had stuff shipped to me via DHL and every time, it enters the country, is marked "delivered" in the tracking page, and I end up getting a pick up notice from the post office three to five days after it has cleared customs.
So, I personally have to go and pick the parcel up from the post office, DHL just drop all their parcels into the Australia Post system at nearest office in Port of entry. Which makes me wonder why I have paid a hefty premium to use a courier service when it is slow and I have to do half the work.
USPS has been VERY good for me at the receiving end, typically less than five working days regular mail, my record has been two days from California! I always specify USPS First Class mail, as it is as fast as Expedited to Australia.
USPS beats Australia Post shipping half way around the world compared to interstate here.
FedEx is good, not exceptional but at least they deliver!
Regards, Andrew.

Personally I'm done with UPS. I shipped a Sporty lower bolted to a Can from NY to NC. The guy built a bulllet proof crate with the can bolted to the crate. When I received it, it looked like they dropped it from 40'. The sides (3/8" plywood screwed to 2x4 framing) were all busted up. The 1/4" bolts securing the can to the frame were actually broke, prop shaft damaged not to mention the visual damage.
Then just 5 weeks ago I shipped a Drag drop on from Charlotte, NC to my shop in NC. Again bullet proof crate constructed of screwed together 2x4 & 2x6 framing with a 3/4" floor with the power head bolted to the base, sheated with 1/2" plywood then cased in with 1 x 3 all around. Dam arrows all around "ship this side up". Friggin crate was shipped sideways and looked like two fork trucks had used it for a hockey puck in some warehouse. Motor was actually broke from the 3/4" base. Motor had been bounced around in the crate. JSRE flywheel beat all to Chit, bent .36ths & the dam allen head bolts to the center hub were filled with wood where it was beat & bounced around.
Then try dealing with their company owed Insurance company "Crawford" :nonod:.

I just sent my granddaughter in Denmark her Christmas package...which consisted of a camera and accessories, a ring, and and some very light weight items, also a few Visa gifts cards and odds and ends...I put it in the lg. (which is a very small box) flat rate box ($13.95). I don't know what is going on either but the last time I shipped things out to her I did not have to go through what I did this time. The girl at the post office gave me paperwork to fill out and said you have to itemized every item that is in the box and fill out this paperwork, I was like you gotta be kidding me, so after that was done I figured, being I used a FLAT RATE at $13.95 box how much could it be to Denmark, oh then I remember how much it was to ship Olivia's birthday present, uh oh! but I wanted her to have presents to open not just Visa gift cards, so I finally go back to the window and she says $77.00 to ship and then I had to add insurance on it. So a $13.95 flat rate box, cost me over $77.00 to ship. That is just not right, I would love to send her things all the time but it is so difficult, and very costly, it is just not fair. Jay there is a post office by my mom's store that I will not go in because the people that work there are nasty, rude, idiots, I would rather drive to another one....

Well I can't complain about the Girls/Women at my local little 500 sf post office. They probably don't see 20 people a day if that. They always go out of their way to assist me anyway they can. Heck, most of the time they even fill out the forms (if required) for me right there.

I know it is a lot of money, but the USPS is very competitive for international shipping compared to what you pay in other countries. It would probably cost more to ship it from Sweden to Denmark, which is next doors.

That is what Helle, Olivia's mom tells me, she says even to buy clothes in Denmark it is double what we pay here. I am actually going to UPS to ship more out today, I am not using the post office..
