View Full Version : F1/Champboat series
I was recently reading in powerboat mag that the F1 prop series is being revived. It also indicated that the Champboat series will continue.
Is what I read correct? I cant get enough tunnel boat racing but wonder if there are enough of us to support 2 series.
Does anyone have any good info on this??

My understanding is that Champboat is done.
The PROP tour is going to run F1 and F2 boats, And include the Pro Tunnel Tour (45 SST or F-lights) at most events.

I have heard that "Champboat" was done also but I saw the same article that said they were going to run races in 2010. I would think with the people involved (real racers) that the F1-Prop series will be a good thing for the sport.

Any clues as to what and where Champboat will be running in 2010? The website has not been updated for a while.

There certainly aren't enough drivers or race sites for both series.
Wayne Worthy sold Champboat to Mike Schreifer (sp) a few years ago. There have been any number of "growing pains". Mike was a promoter not intimately involved in powerboat racing.
With things on a decline I guess the principals behind the original Champboat, SPORT, are once again combining forces to revive F1 racing, and doing it under the familiar PROP name.
I wish everyone well and hope it all goes smoothly.

The combining of the two (champboat/prop) seems to make sense and probably the only possible successful solution. Hope everyone gets out to see atleast one race. This incredible sport deserves ALL outboarders support.
Thanks for the info.

reliable inside source that due to poor management "Champ Boat" is finished and all the drivers have jumped ship to join the "Prop Tour" which is owned and run by 3 guys who all either do or have raced and owned their own teams.
I would guess anything on the net in re. to the old Champ series is just to "appear" that all is well unless things have changed.
My info is about a mnth old.

I do not understand why Tunnelboat racing is not more popular, to me there is way to many Monster truck races on TV , Speed has all these reality shows that IMO suck, Why is it Tunnelboat Racing does not get the recognition it deserves? I hope the Prop Tour gets the publics attention . I think a race in NYC might do the trick., near the south street seaport.Heres a idea , I`ll let Tiger Woods drive my boat,( as long as i can hold his wallet till he comes back to the dock .)

I'm 50 yrs old and have followed boat racing all my life. I agree w/your comments and have always felt that done right it could become the premiere event that it should be.
In the past there has been some coverage of Unlimited (boring), Offhore which now races on freagin rivers (BORING!) and tunnel boats.
It takes real money to make it work. Moeny for the teams, money for publicity, money for the sanction fee's, real competition and has to be delivered in a package that fans can understand and follow.
IMO it's tough to get and audiance excited about rooting for a team running a rig identical to everyone elses. Nascars cars are the same but still have competing brands stickers on them so the fans can root for their favorite and a huge key to their success.
I think MOD VP from back in the day came the closest to achieving this.
Different boats, different motors, long courses so the boats were fast and flighty Vs todays "round" tracks that keeps the speeds way down.
Every few yrs someone comes along w/a program thats going to put the sport on the map but not much to brag about to this point.

I agree. It was great too. Do you ever wonder who or what was responsible for it ending?
Maybe we need a new thread.

from an X MOD VP class Racer like yourself. This was straight from (over beers) a X multi time championship level driver.
He said it was because you guys were taking too much of the attention from the Champ Boat guys which was the premiere class at the time.
He implied that it was the drivers group more so than mfgs which would make sense as the motor/boat builders would stand to make way more from MOD VP than the same group in Champ.
Same guy also validated previous stories you had told me of certain motor mfgs "bending" the rules so "their" guys won. BTW, he ran with that product as well so would have no reason to embellish :icon_bs:
PS, Bobby are you going to Houston?? If so I'll see you there.

Do tell. This could get very interesting for those of us that don't know.
