I looking to put a 2.4 merc on my tunnel hull fishing boat. Im trying to build something a little bit different. But are these engines something that i can count on? idle? water preasure while running in 6" of water? trash, sand in the low water pickup while running shallow? Just a few questions i need a little help with.

The 1st question is what kind of a lower unit are you running?

I havent bought the new engine yet. I will be replacing an old looper johnny rude that blew the powerhead. And yes your right it is a flats boat. If i stay away from the nose cone pick-up i might be ok. My big concern is the engine being reliable.

Most of the local guides around here run Merc or Mariner motors so that to me says something. Most of the running offshore in Citrus county is shallow grass flat and oyster bars.
