I'm in the middle of disasssembling 2 lower units, one off my V-6 special and one off a later mid-90's v-6. I've got everything else apart, just need to pull the fwd propshaft bearing race out of both so I can swap the good stuff from my V-6 case into the later case.

Question is: is there a puller that works that deep in there, if not how the *%^& do you pull the race?

I've heard "heat" like 300* +, but don't want to burn the paint off teh new lower.

Any marine dealer that sells yammi has a mechanic that will sell you a few minutes of his time he will have a slide hammer with the correct jaws to remove the race its a 2 minute job. what about putting it back in?? with the right tools and pinion height and forward gear lash there is some knowledge required here without it good luck

I'll be sending it to "someone" for assembly. Just trying to get the good, matched parts out of my current lower for the new housing (LWP, coned, etc..)

That's the piece I needed... didn't even think of going to Schmuck's. I know what I'm doing tomorrow.

Went to one of the local outboard shops that work on Yamaha's... They said "Yep, we can do that" When I asked how much "$46.00" :nonod:... I walked out. For all the shop owners I do understand the 1/2 hour - Whole hour concept, but I'm NOT gonna pay $46 to pop 2 bearing races... :icon_bs:

whats your time worth to go rent a slide hammer with mabe the right jaws to reach it, rent it for a probably minimum charge then take it back burning your gas and time:confused: you were there it would be over already now you get to start over add wasted time to that just my .02

Schucks is about 2 blocks from me, maybe 2 1/2. tool rental is usually under $10, and I can carry one of the lowers in to make sure I have a pulller that will work.

Please bear in mind my job went away last week, going from $80K a year to $630 a week (unemployment) right during the holiday's means I have to pull in the belt a few notches. If it was in the budget I'd have just shipped my lower off and had it checked and reset, LWP and trim tab added. I'm still trying to make forward progress and hoping to be back to work and back on the water ASAP...

$46 will feed the family for a few days, almost a week if we eat cheap.... I can justify spending a few bucks on the boat, but dropping almost $50 for someone to pop 2 races out when everything else is already out isn't in the budget!!!
