I've got a couple of Phase 3 F-16's and an F-14. They are a blast - But not a very good beginner plane. If you can fly a high wing plane now, No problem. If not, Your asking for a high speed crash.

I think Joe can fly just about any plane..

I`ve been in it for years took a couple of years off after going to giant scale
and getting a little burned out. I `ve recently been flying the jets on my real flight and really getting a kick out of it. If you goto www.Bananahobby.com they have what appear to be pretty nice EDF pieces that I could hand launch in the acreage behind my house. They cost less than half what I have in the engine of the giant (1/3 scale pitts) I still have hanging in my garage. Some of these things are running over 100 mph per the add. They have flight demos that are quite impressive. Looks like a lot of fun and performance with out the mess. http://www.bananahobby.com/1719.html

I'm sure you know this, But you have to watch the weight / wing loading of these little beast. At 14 oz, This one should be good.
Watch out though, Just like the boats, There is always 'one more' upgrade that will make it faster. -This F-35 will want a bigger motor, Hotter battery pack, and ESC before you know it!
Have fun.

thats kinda why I was asking I did`nt want to under buy as I have so many times before in this hobby. I was just thinking this thing would be a quick
thrill in the back yard while cooking a steak. The idea of no fuel no ignition one battery, seems simple. If you take the time to go to that sight and look around that little Pete guy sure puts a good spin on them. Just the thought
of no clean up is appealing. They even have one with vectored thrust to be mixed with elevator and rudder damn cool.

If your burned out, get a heli! ;)
If your burned out, get a heli! ;)
The guys I know that do Heli s seem to allways be working on them not flying.Thats why these hand launchable EDFs intrigue me. Pull it off the wall on a light wind day toss it,put it on the pin and let it eat. I`ve got one .60 size P-51 mustang glow model that does probably 70 mph but the 95 to 100 stuff looks fun. On the surface it seems no fuel, no flying field to drive to, no clean up etc . From the amount of replies I guess not many here have tried them.

Joe, you are right about the hassle free part of the EDFs. During the summer, There is usually at least one plane in the car ready to go. You get out, flip the switches, and toss it. (and no big clean up after flight!) I've got some gas and glow planes and heli's also, But I get a lot more flight time on the electrics because of the ease of use.

Here is a heavily modified Phase 3 at 177 MPH -That is fast. Mine has clock 140 and I thought it would peel the wings off !

Do some research on Banana Hobby. I thought about getting a helicopter from them once, but I came across alot of complaints about their customer service and time of responses etc. That kid flying all the models in all of their demo videos seems to be one of the main guys behind BH.
They could have changed in the past year or so, but do some research, I wouldn't want you spending a few hundred dollars, wreck a jet the first week you have it, then wait months for customer service.
They claim:Professional Lifetime Tech Support only at Banana Hobby
Here is one website I came across doing some research on the company.

If you fly one, you need to do some maintainence. Especially if you crash. ;)
Nope, I haven't tried one yet. I like the electric too. That is what my 500 heli is. I fly it in the field behind my house. Pull it off the shelf, plug the battery up, and it's ready.

You will have to build one to go that fast. The stock Phase 3 kit comes with a motor and speed control that will push about 70 MPH flat and level, ~$129 anywhere on the web. You provide the battery (3 cell lipo) and radio.
The stock setup flies nice, Notice how it glides in for landing like a trainer.
for the latest mods, I'd check here:

I get 15 min's of flight time .
