Any opinions on how a 1987 cigarette 21 outboard boat runs? Not many around, have not driven one. Is it a decent rough water ride for a 21' ob boat? Chime walk? Currently rigged with a 300 rude, i would put a optimax 300xs on, speed porjections anyone?
Any feedback from experience or knowledge would be a help.

The serial number does begin with a CRT. A few people have tried to tell me that Cig never made an outboard 21? I would only be interested in 21' Cig if it was built as an outboard boat NOT a I/O converted.
The boat appears to be heavy, like an older boat would be, but any idea on how one would run top end with a 300 Rude or new 300XS? It would help give me an idea as to how heavy or well this boat may or may not run?

I did see an 87' red Cig 21' outboard for sale recently, it was in NY, hull only no motor, pretty rough shape. It was sold by the time i could check it out. Probably a different boat if you have seen it on the water recently.

The red 21 cig in St pete with the 300xs is really a Rally Sport with a cig decal. I have talked w the guy before at Shell island. As I recall the boat did not have a jackplate or setback. It was in good shape.

I know that Rally/Cig too...nice looing in good shape...but NOT a Cigarette. the Rally is a much smaller boat, 21 degree deadrise versus the Cig 24 Degree deadrise.

Is this Mike @ Lightning Bay Marine? I think I saw the Cig for sale that you are looking at. somewhat local and same power. Seems like a lot of money to me though. Sold my 1991 21' Apache with a 300 promax and a new trailer for $13k

Yes this is Mike at Lightning Bay Perf Marine. Sorry but i don't recognize you by qctracing? Yes he is asking a lot, but i know he will take a lot less!!!! Desperation sale it seemed after talking to seller.
I have just been looking for a small go-fast to play around with. I still have my 39' Donzi. Seemed like a cool boat, but awefully slow! V8 Rude and the seller says it only goes 62? Heavy boat.....probably not my cup of tea. Been looking at some 21' Superboats...look like a fun boat, only want an outboard. Whatever I buy i will probably throw a new Opti 300XS with warranty.
Your Apache sounded like a good deal!

Try also looking at Checkmate 21 Pulsare w/300XS.
Very well built, close to 90, and tons of fun. Wildman will hook you up!!

While Scott Layman worked for Cigarette in the mid-80's, he raced a new 21 Cigarette outboard V-8 Evinrude boat in Offshore A Class for about 3 or 4 years & did so-so with it. Persistence was his game. As you know, the Cigarettes of that era were about the heaviest made. The hull design is not the fastest either. You want a slower(for the power), comfortable, wave-crusher(for a 21), then this is your boat. Other small performance V's in this same class will have a good 10 m.p.h. on the Cigarette, power for power.

Still a good chance i will get a 28 Skater, but i may go even bigger....you never know! I change my mind monthly.
BTW...your 24 skater looks great....coming along nicely.
