would it be any benifit to putting a 15" mid on a vector or is that just a waste of a good mid. i`m not looking to got really fast but and a good pace 70-80 mph. or am a better off with a stock 20" and a good nose coned lower thanks Donnie

It will lower the center of gravity, and make the boat drive better. One disadvantage, you have to be more aware coming off plane, with the engine lower, it makes it easier to dunk the powerhead in the water.

I've never liked setback on Viper/Vector/Vikings much, BUT the Vector transom is already TALL and you might need a plate to get it down a little. I think it's roughly the equivalent of 22" if I remember right. Since you don't see many Vectors runnin' with 20" motors mounted 5" above the transom, puttin' a 15" mid might make it high for all but top end runnin'.

I find that a 20in mid bolted in the top hole directly to the transom works best.

"Mickey's" sleeps in my garage.;) It had a 16" cut down on it, BUT, it's also got about 6" of setback, and even at that I don't think the engine height was set as high as the top of the transom. (I'd have to look again)

Mine is bolted directly to the transom, handles well, gotta be a little careful coming of plane.

The 20" directly on the transom (all the way up) is the way to go.

Running a 15" mid over a 20" is easier on the transom. The twisting lever (stress) the 15" puts on the transom is less than the longer 20". The center of gravity is lower in the boat so it will handle better. Now if it's too high, ot to low, I don't know.

I put a 15 on a V-King had to mod the jack plate to get prop shaft even with pad.

Can anyone with a factory Merc 15" take some measurements?

What is the height from the top of the clamp (or either top or bottom mounting hole for that matter) to the centerline of the propshaft?

I think I could get away with bolting one directly to the Vandal transom, but need to measure to make sure.

so do you have to run it all out all the time or can you cruise some with the 15" motor. i can go either way i`m not looking to tote the mail all the time

I cruise all the time with a wot every once and a while usually with the wife 2 kids and a ice chest full of cold beverages. It does not like th thru hub props like the tempest but does well with a small ear chopper.

so if i run the 15" mid surely have to have lwp ,does any one have a good pics of the stern with one set up? looks like i may try it out.and i`m guessing i wouldn`t need a jack plate?

I don't have a jackplate bolted directly to the boat one hole up.

Not necessarily. Depends how high it's set up. I run my (short) 16"XS @ about 21-1/2" using scoops on a standard GC and have plenty of water pressure. My propshaft center line is about 3 -4" below the bottom of the boat.

The transom on a Viking & V King is not as high as a Vector. May be as much as 2" difference, but there's that ole' po' memory of mine again.:o

worked fine on my viper

Viper transom is shorter than Vector also.

been watching you tube videos of hydrostreams.almost all of the are running with the motors all the way up on jack plates. seems like a 15" mid would work just fine bolted all the way down.
