How hot can i safely run my 225 rude? She would run at around 140 degrees with the jackplate very low but im gonna be doing some racing today so i will be raising the motor to try find top speed but im cautious.

Watch your water pressure, on a merc. I keep my around 10 to 12 lbs.. I would think a omc would be the same .

IT SHOULD STAY AROUND THE SAME UNDER POWER I HAVE SEEN 180 ON MINE AND IT DID WELL THERE. GOOD LUCK:thumbsup:

The thermostats are 143 (unless your'e running restrictors). But water pressure is most important, you will see a water pressure drop before you see a temp increase.

when its at around 240*f you pick up about 10psi of water pressure:D

Yeah, that's when it goes into pressure cooker mode. I like to see at least 10-15 lbs water pressure. With my motor dropped a little, I peg the 30lb guage at WOT.

Needed pressure can vary dependant on what might be done to the cooling system and the power the engine is making. The engine should idle in the 140 range (thermostats) and decrease as speed increases due to increased pressure which opens the relief valve(s) Temp over 140 will hurt power output.
