I wish that i had better news for you, but when it comes to top end performance the merc's are tough to beat. On the bright side your unit will always bring you home, parts are cheap, and the unit is very durable

I think the rude is a 2.6 liter. Eagle block I think.

So the evinrude has more liters and there still isnt any comparison? Why is that so i figured the performance levels should be significantly similar.

Post 1991 the Evinrude would be the 2.6L Eagle V6. Exceptional engine. I've got the 150hp version and it has exceeded all of my expectations. I've never owned a merc but would have to believe the Evinrude would be competitive.
Pre 1991 would be the 2.6L Cross Flow V6. Either the eagle or the merc would easily outperform this motor. The plus side is that it's reliable and very easy to work on.

The engine is a 1998 model with low time but i really dnt have my expectations to high performance wise cause i never really heard of imprssive numbers from these smaller OMC motors
