Mercury DDT info??

Can the info on a Merc DDT be changed or deleted? I know the numbers of hours@any given rpm are recorded. Can a dealer (or any one with a DDT) CHANGE those numbers or just clear them?

Would it be fair for me to request the numbers of hours a dealer is claiming a motor has on it so it can be checked by a consumer (me) BEFORE I send the DDT back to verify usage?? He thinks I may have put a bunch on it this winter!! He won't tell me the alleged number of hours on the motor when I received it.. LOL I requested the info to have a local dealer check it for me for comparison. He refuses to give me the info stating I can ADJUST the DDT ........ WTF???

Sorry, been screwed by a dealer before. At least this time, I would like to know the facts... May get screwed again but everyone will know!!!

I'm not sure on a ddt but with the cds laptop software you can reset to 0 but that would be all you can do. You can't take some of the hours off.

I could be thinking of another manufacturers software but I'm pritty sure it's merc.

for another one and you can never know what is really on the mota. i have a friend who had a 300xs it had ecu trouble just before the warranty went out they put another ecu on it so he had a 2year old motor with 1 1/2 hrs on itwhen he sold it :eek: but as to your question im not sure it can be adjusted to show less time then it has or at least im unable to do it with mine:confused:

I use an OTC 4000 with the Merc cartridges and I can reset all the history failure codes on 280's as well as break - in hours..

From what I've been told on my 280, fault code history and break in may be cleared and reset as Jay stated, but total hours/run history can not be cleared or adjusted.

If you are buying a used engine it would be appropriate for you to request a printout of the current hours.
The hours can not be deleted with the DDT.
Break in can be reset, history and trouble codes can be reset.
My understanding is the total hours can be reset by the factory and there is a couple private co.'s that can, but not with a DDT.
The DDT is the tool, the ECM is the part.

Thanks guys. Jeff, I had a brain fart. I knew I MEANT the ECU,, LOL.. I wish I had asked for a printout in advance. In reality he has me by the short hairs since he could NOW say I put 5 hours on the motor though it ain't true...... I got nothing to compare it too..:mad::mad:

run history can be cleared total hours cant.if you clear run history all the rpm range time in each rpm range will be cleared .
