I have a pair of buddies curently semi-stranded in Florida on the Gulf coast (in no danger). They have a pair of Optimax 200's, one of which died last night and wouldn't start. Today it started and ran fine until they got under power and were about 3/4's on plane when it died and won't start again. No temp alarm or anything and seems to be pumping water fine. They're trying to get it running so they can continue home. Anybody with an idea on what the problem might be and how to fix it? Any fuses or interlocks that hey could look at? I know that's not a lot of info to go on. Thanks.

Addendum - They just called back. In case this helps. When the one motor died, it went completely dead - won't turn over or anything. It also appears to have taken out the power trim on both motors. Also, wehn they try to turn it on, the tach for that unit goes down WAY below zero RPM's.

Sounds like a bad battery.

battery connectors corroded or the master switch on the battery

They checked that. The boat has a switch for the two batteries and they have tried switching them to run each other. Also physically switched them in case the switches were the problem. Thanks.

What about the fuse on the motor, by where the main harness goes in?

Just called again. They limped back to where they can leave the boat and have it checked by a pro, but checking the fuse and connectors got it running again. However, they are in a no wake zone, a mile from where they can run it fast so are currently unable to fully test it and it will be a few days. I will post the final anser here when I hear for anyone that's interested. Thank you all for all the help.

What kind of boat is it? We had a 27 Concept that was rigged with the ground battery cable attached to the air intake cover (real dumb idea)
Check to be sure the battery cables are hooked up well on the motor.
