Hey guys, I've done some searches but there doesn't seem to be a whole lot on this topic here. I'm going to be replacing the mounts on my 2005 XR6 and would like any and all comments and suggestions. The boat handled fine with the original rubber ones, but they are shot after only 5 seasons. I'm not sure if I want to go with solids because of the way they vibrate everything loose. Plus I would think that solids would shorten the life of the transom, wouldn't they?

I've heard some people talk about composite ones? Or "semi-hard" ones from the ProMax motors? Is this correct, and if so will they work on the fishing motors? I had thought that the high perf motors had a different mount setup.

Basically looking for something that will last longer than the originals, maybe improve the handling, and won't shake the boat to pieces...if such a thing exists. Thanks.

Composite mounts work just as a solid mount yet are made from a different material usually a phenolic product. Although they do have a slight dampaning efffect depending on the material they also tend to wear faster as the material is often softer. Those made with the harder materials have less dampaning. The normal solid mounts are aluminum and if they were made from steel they'd be a lot worse on "transmitting" any sound or vibration. The Factory High Perf. engines 260,280, 300 drag ect are a solid as it gets. A little preventive inspection will check anything tending to loosen up.

I have one set solid and one set not. I dont have any vibration transmitting and like that. Zero handeling issues also. I cant remember but I think the tops are the solid ones?:rolleyes:http://forums.screamandfly.com/forums/images/icons/icon3.gif

I would thank putt'in solids only in one spot(top or bottom) would reely put more stress on the solid ones, beinz they have no "Holding" help from tha other, non-solid one...I also had a mota once that when tore down, the top wuz solid, and the bottom wuz rubber...tha exhaust adaptor had a lot ov wear, az did tha aluminium mount...I thought it had rubber mounts, but had a noise I didn't like when it idled wit a bigger wheel...I have no ideer how old tha mount wuz, kuz it wuz in ther when I got tha mota!!...

Ron, what U do wit your bote, I would replace tha rubber mounts wit RUBBER MOUNTS!!...They don't deminish performance on boats like yours...I use rubber mounts in my big Laser, and it handles fine @ 80mph wit them...I have had solid mounts on tha same boat, and it's much smoother with tha rubber mounts...Yea, ya mota moves around a lil more, but at leest tha steer'in wheel iz steady enuff to hold it!!lol
