hey guys, i have a 1987 Y-king YT with a pretty much stock 200 on it, it does have high compression heads on it, and carbon fiber dual stage reeds and some other small bolt on's.....anyways for right now im running a stock quicksilver 30p prop on it, and have been able to squeeze out 88.1 on GPS. the bow lift gets a little crazy so i have to keep tapping down as the speed climbs, it is technically a tunnle hull so i may not need the bow lift..... Any suggestions? im turning around 6800 rpm with the prop shaft about 1 in above the pad

the 30p you are running now is it a chopper?

Cleavers worked best for me. Those boats have a lot of hull in the water and can use the tail lift.

so you think a cleaver?.....any idea what pitch? the boat does get plenty of bow lift itself anywhere above 75 that could be a good thing, having tail lift...i had a 30p chopper on it now and its just ridiculous trying to keep the nose down.....thanks for the tip

I was running a 30p cleaver but I had a 2.4 Bridgeport I don't know if a stock 200 can turn it? Maybe a 28p?

Also I had great luck with 12" of set back but you will probably have to change one of your steering cables out to a longer one?

I have a valero YT.. 6" of setback, 1/4" above pad, 22 DAH and 26 DAH (chopper)... I am also running seastar pro....

yeah im still not sure if the 28p will be better than the 30....i can turn the 30p chopper at 7000....i guess i shouldn't say its a bone stock 200, i listed some of the mods up top in my first post, when i say hi compression heads,it has the land and sea dual plug heads, with 150psi in each cylinder.. the boat has been upside down with all edges strightened and sharpened, than coated in graphite, it has a CLE lower unit.....it does have Nitrox system on it, with a full tank of nitrous and methanol....i havnt used it yet though haha

Try a stock lower with a bobs, or a bob's on the CLE... Both worked way better for me than a standard CLE. Turing a 30 Pitch anyting at 7K is no stock motor, well unless you have 30% prop slip. I would like to know what mph, what gear ratio, and the exact prop you were using so we could figure out your slip and go from their. 30 Pitch is allot of prop for that speed.

at just about 7000 i was running 88.1 with the prop shaft about 1'' above the pad and 4'' of set back....the roost was only about as tall as my engine....im not sure what gear ratio i have?....if you look at some of my pics you can see the two 88 mph passes...it looks like its running pretty dry

oh haha...i forgot to tell you the prop.....its a bone stock quick silver 30p chopper.....it even still has the line cutters on it

hey erik this is a great idea, if you and chris p. could separate nate from all his 2.5 merc stuff, his lower unit is the exact thing ozz is talking about, and having a spare drive is a wonderfull thing :reddevil:

i was just thinking of that today.....i was going to ask nate if i could buy his lower unit since it already has the bobs nose cone....i still have his 22p yamaha too

I tend to swap things allot, as I have access to a "plethora of parts" up the road... I tend to find what works and then get bored with it and sell it. Anyway, I am currently running a stock lower with a bobs, got a little china-walk up high but the motors is also 6" back and 1" above the pad. (I also have had this boat out every day this week trying stuff... so tommorow it might be different)

Started another thread about it, as you were not the first person to ask.

hey i am running a 30 mazco re3 at 84.6mph at 5800rpms with a 150 prov yamaha think i could use a 29 though to get me back to about 6000 rpms and hopefully a few more mph.

i talked to someone who is very well known in the boating world and he thought a Mazco 29p R.E. would be my best bet....i just ordered one so ill let you know how it works out

mine has a hydralic 4" setback jack plate and i normally get my best speed at around a 1/2" to 1" above the pad. i tried adding 4" more set back and i thought it slowed me down i lost all my holeshot and 5 mph

that's the same set up i have...4" of set back with a land and sea hydraulic jack plate....i keep the boat around 70-75 mph and go up with the jack height till i loose bite than drop it back down just enough to get bite again.....this is usually about 1'' above the pad with my 30p chopper

Worked for me too..... for top end anyway. My old YT ran 95.5 mph w/ a 2.5 carb'd 200 stock except shaved heads for 150 psi and a stock 2 hole CLE. Turning the 30 right at 7k.

on your old YT.....how much set back did you have? i was thinking about trying 6''

I started off with a 10" plate, then I swapped to a 6" looking for better holeshot and was very happy with the results. I lost nothing up top, and the slow speed hopping got much better.
