Hi I'm mew to the site and in need of an answer. I have just bought a 24ft ChrisCraft, it has a good running 3.0 but it had twin 3.0's I will be useing this boat for fishing on lake Ontario. What I need to know is can I install a 5.7 mercruiser in it useing the same gimble houseing? Engine room is not an issue, more than enough in front. I just don't know if a 3.0 will be enough to get me off the lake if it starts to get rough. I will be useing an Alpha I out drive. any help will be appriciated.
Thanks
Rod

No, you cannot use the stock inner transom shield the 3.0l used, you need v-8 transom shield assemblys inner and outer, plus the drive ratio is geared too low.I would find a complete setup at a boat junk yard, that would be the cheapest way.the later year the alpha drive setup the better.
