Just put a 2000 promax on the boat along with new impellor and poppit valve, water pressure at idle is 13-15 psi decent stream out of pee hole, when running the pressure is anywhere from 13-22 depending on speed, at 4000 rpm its about 14 psi pee stream looks weak its kind of spraying instead of constant stream. Could the right bank have a clog in it not sure whats going on. No alarms going off. Any help appreciated.

Those pressures sound fine to me. Are you taking your pressure from the top of the block?

Poppet valve may be sticking showing high idle water pressure..

Just a thought !

The pressure readings are from the guage which i believe is at the top of the block, is there anyway to check the poppit valve

You can see it open at 1500-1800 rpm, pressure should abruptly drop about 8-10 lbs. To my knowledge, it should not be open at idle (would cause low pressure), but Jay just might have seen an engine or two more than me:D

Thats exactly whats happening it drops once you start going, so its supposed to be that high at idle every other merc i've had which have been pre 2000 have low pressure 3-6 at idle

No two Mercs seem to be alike. I've run the same mid for a number of years, yet each powerhead I install on it is different, and each lower unit I install makes it different again:confused:

I would agree, 13-15 at idle is a bit on the high side, but with no heating issues, and normal WOT pressure, I wouldn't be overly concerned right now.

Just got through playing with this same thing this weekend. I was running 143 stats and the pressure was up around 14 at idle. I changed to 120's that seem to have a larger bypass hole in them and pressure came down to 12 lbs cold, 10lbs warm and the 8 when the poppet opened.

I put the 143's back in it because I was barely holding 125 on the temp gauges. That's a little cold for my type of use this time of year.
