Saw a motor for sale, a 150 carb, for a good price but it may because it was modded and I think I would prefer stock since the motor will be used for skiing, holeshot is priority over skiing.

It is a 98' 150 card 2.5 with a promax 225 tune. Will that hurt holeshot?

It has 225 heads, higher compression, and then they were milled by Jay smith. Better Holeshot but high octane gas..

The lake I boat on does not have high octane at any on the water marina so I would have to go back to stock heads. Would the tuner give it worse holeshot than the stock tuner

Contact Jay Smith and ask him of his knowledge of this motor. He will give you an honest answer.

TOOOOO many factors to figure in....Hard to say what THEY consider a 225 "tune" Has it been ported or what. People also get confused on what a engine builder may have told them. If a 150 with higher compression heads it will be stronger and work well for your application. The thing is you don't know who done the work or if they know squat about what they are doing. I modify engines all the time for people and have to take in consideration how it will be used and on what boat and what they expecct out of it. It is not a 1 modification applies engines and to all boat.

I personally have a 2.5 175 cut to a 225 PM along with alot of other mods and EFI with 225 ECU that was built as a experiment. With a 26 chopper and 1:87 on a 19 bullet it takes about 1/2 a boat lenth. I could jerk a skiers arm off with it. Same engine on a 21' stratos would not be that strong on bottom with the same set up. A simple prop change may make it that strong as over the hub props can mask alot of bottom power loss from porting. Once againg, too much stuff to consider......JMO

edited, 225 promax tuner, no porting.

Would probably go back to stock heads, 87 gas is all available on the lake I frequent.

Tuner is not going to do crap. Sounds like a 150 with higher compression which should be a very strong engine. Sounds like Jay has you covered.....
