Looking for something bigger and weighing my options - so I need to know what the options are.

I'm considering what can be had new, and ratcheting down from there.
Allisons are wonderful, a GS would be my dream boat, but buying one new ain't a happenin' thing.

HS's will always get my attention. What I think I know abut the HS arena:

1) PK Marine is the latest iteration of the "Contzen" HS's in the US. They build a Venom, which is over my head in price, and a couple family boats. But they also build an updated Vegas and apparently a traditional Viper. Any other models that are not advertised? Seems like at one point they were building Vkings or Vectors, but I see no mention of that now.

2) Mr. Spaeth builds HS's somewhere in Ontario. My impression is that he builds Vkings and perhaps Vectors?

3) Minx is a wild card, they have a website but have built only one boat that anyone has seen. Quality would be much more of an unknown, if they truly still exist. I got a generic email at the beginning of this year from them, they had gotten my email from the HS Registry and wanted to know if any dealers in my area would have an interest in their boat. They do not currently answer emails.

That's what I think I know. Can anyone fill in the blanks on what I don't know about what's being built?

There is one for sale that is about 20 miles from me. They want more than the 2 unrigged hulls were going for on ebay they had listed a little while ago.

I am thinking of going to see if I can take a peek at it tomorrow while I am out running around.

I'm a little confused. I thought these were built on the East Coast somewhere?

Seems like that red boat had a lower starting bid on eBay, but did not sell?

Would this be the same one?

I am not sure. I sent the guy an email late last night but have not heard back from him on it. There is a small boat dealer in Andover where it says its located if I remember right so maybe they ordered one. Hopefully I hear back on it.

John builds a lot of different boats, but in Hydrostream I think it's just Vkings and VooDoos. He can do an infused Vking, if you like the old 'Streams that would be the way to go!

So are these (PK Marine, Minx) all just companys that have gotten ahold of the molds and are now building boats that they call "hydrostreams"?

You would think there would be a "Hydrostream" company that would build Hydrostreams.....

It's like some company getting ahold of a bunch of Bullet molds...making boats and using the Bullet name. I guess I'm a little confused at how all of the works................

Jeff, by that do you mean a "no-wood construction" Vking?

He does the Vegas, Vegas XT, and Valero...and I think he has the V-king YT mold as well. There are no better built boats then Speath's....

Nice boat, probably a good price. There's a guy up here who has an '07 Voyager he has tried repeatedly to sell, he's probably down near that price by now. There's just something about a bowrider that says "rug rats" to me, and I'm way past that stage in my life. Thanks though.

Jeff, by that do you mean a "no-wood construction" Vking? No, infusion is a resin transfer moulding process that produces the lightest, strongest boat possible. As far as I know John uses balsa for core and plywood for transoms.

It's like some company getting ahold of a bunch of Bullet molds...making boats and using the Bullet name. I guess I'm a little confused at how all of the works................Last year Jim, and I partnered up, and moved the production of Hydro Stream to Ga. We are the retail side of Hydro Stream, and are co owners of Hydro Stream, Hydro streams are being built by Hydro Stream, by Hydro Stream people, the Minx is a splash of the V-King, The patents expired on the old stuff, but both the names (Hydro Stream, V-king) as well as all the other names are trade mark protected, so they can't call it a Hydro Stream, or V-King, in 2001 federal laws on design were passed, so if someone splashes a boat designed 2001 or later carries heavy federal penalties, and all the boats, molds and all money made on them, go to the original designer, it costs to much to renew the old patents, we would have to sell a lot of boats to pay for the process, and the demand for them is low, as minx can attest, other older boat designs have been splashed, it is common, but you can't call it by the original name, unless you pay for the rights, or splash one that was designed 2001 or later.

John Spaeth is in Brechin, ON. It's about 1.5 hours north of Toronto. You can find him by entering "Hydrostream Brechin" in Google

I think the list is the following. He may have thinned it out for all I know:

Voo Doo
Valero
Vking, V bottom only
Vista (bow rider on Vking bottom)
Vegas/Vegas XT
Voyager, V & XT

To my knowledge, the YT hulls were never built in Canada.

John doesn't uses Okume wood for transoms, the rest is Coosa. Balsa running surfaces, it all depends on what you want..... Kevlar, Carbon etc. Nobody builds a better boat....... and they are REAL Hydrostreams.
He also has the vector deck mold.

Sorry Rob I stand corrected. I was sure about the running surface.

I guess someone wanting to build a comp Vector could get a new deck.
