According to the instructions they are NOT compliant with older" spin barrel" cable ends. Length between the barrel and terminations is about 3 inches farther than older style cables.

I have'nt had any issuse updating control boxes. You might be thinking of the control box ends, which are different all together than the old style.

corrct. Its the mechanism that holds the cable in place that is different.
I have heard that they make adapters ?

Umn.. if you have a new Gen 2 box and new Gen 2 cables... I'm not really seeing the issue here. I put the same deal in a 92 or 93 bass boat about a month ago. Barrel ends go to the motor, and the control box ends are held in by either metal or plastic clamps.

Capn-
i may be reactin gto some bad infor here. Was told BOTH ends of the gen II cables are different fromthe older barrel style.
I am starting to think only the control box end is different.
Is this true?
appreciate your inputs and comments. Trying to install this on a 1988 MErc outbaord.
thanks
