hi

I would like to get a bit more insight in my Merc DFI 225 -98 engine. As Merc i.e. Brunswick themselves dodn't seem to have that much http://www.brunswickmarineemea.com/download/dosearch/@isnew/desc?mod=1&lang=EN&categories=

I have been looking around on different sites who seem to sell repair manuals ... but as you can't really see whats in them I wonder if anyone else knows or have experience .... which/where did you buy yours?

The two main ones I have seen are either http://www.selocmarine.com/product_detail.php?item=17 or http://www.outboardexpert.com/mercury2.html

Don't know if this one will work for you. This is the factory manual in active PDF form. If it will work for you PM me your email address and I will email it to you along with instructions on how to use.

Yup, the Merc service manual is the only way to go. I get mine through Crowley Marine at http://www.crowleymarine.com. I use their parts catalog to find the right manual for my specific engine by serial number and order it online. Get the parts manual also, they go hand in hand.

Often you can find them on Ebay but it's hard to tell if it's the current revision with all the updates or not. Sometimes the price is so good it's worth the chance.

As a side note: I know it's a tough economy but I work in an industry that is plagued with copyright theft. I pay the extra money to get mine directly from Merc. Not because its O.K. for Merc to be charging outrageous prices but because the theif that is selling them illegally is just that, a thief.

Oh by the way, you can share a CD legally just like you can share a book but you can't copy it and share it, it has to be the original CD.

Just be mindful when you buy these things off craigslist or eBay.

I sent the factory manual to the Hotmail account. The seloc manuals beccome too general and try to cover too many engines. I see spec variances fromt the factory to the seloc. Like the guy writting it poses his own opinions into them. JMO.....

Ahhhhhmennnnnnn!!!!

The first thing wrong is them selling them by model years (ie 1990-2000) when the Mercs vary so much by serial number range. There were major changes in 92 and then again in 96 that the Seloc and Clymer manuals just don't explain. That can send you hunting a lot instead of being back out on the water.

The 2.5 Factory manual actually covers 1992 to 2000 to include 135 all the way up to 225.

I didn't know that.

My Merc Service manual covers the 90-91's only but you could stretch it a few years either way in some areas.
