The 280 with drag electrics would be a fun motor.......I think the power level would fit into the "big" category you are looking for.....

A stock 280 would be a good choice, just gas and go......fresh gas and spark plugs everynow and then, change gear lube...normal stuff........

The 2.5's are all very simple engine's. If you want bare bones, then you want a carb 2.5

Regardless there are electronics involved in both which can be a huge mind boggle when trying to trouble shoot a problem.

The 280 jay talks about will most likely run just fine on pump gas min 92octane, with race heads on it you would need to run higher octane which would be atainable using aces additives, a product Jay swears by.

What kinda boat are you putting this on? a 280 with a alternator kit makes a great lake running motor, while still being able to listen to tunes all day long.

While they are no the cheapest, there are lots of spare parts and lots off knowledge available on this forum for any of the 2.5 high perf engines.

The only wa i wouldnt run a 2.5 on a small boat. Is if i had the money to buy a brand new Full Throttle Power STV Euro and throuw either a 250 or 300xs on the back for lake running

Go with Jay's engine and order to fit your needs. You simply will not go wrong. There is no comparison power to weight to the 2.5 (depending on your application), bar none.

IMHO the 2.5 Horn Motors (even the 280's) are the simplest of today's motors to work on. Think about it, racers want to be able to get at things quickly and friendly.

Open up an Opti, and with my temper, I'd push it into the lake.
