my current engine on the back of my simms super v 14 foot boat

is a johnson 50 hp can someone tell me the year of manufacture
model No j50belcnr serial No b004126.

also on the plate is outboard marine belgium n.v. brugge.

i bought the outfit in 1987 and has never been serviced other than new impeller in 88 and plugs and gearbox oil yearly and

grease points. would it benefit for a full service someone told me

othr than what i have been doing myself it would be a waste of money as the timming is electronic and does not go off

it still goes like **** of a shovel.it still has the standard prop

alu 11x3/4 x17 fully trimmed out it will do about 39mph.

what speed benefit would i see from an upgrade to say a

19 or 21 inch pitch ,it still has plent of revs left with the 17 so

i would not be under reving. i think iam right in saying it should rev between 4500 and 5500.

any information on the above would be appreciated

regards.

I cant help you with the year of your engine .If you put a merc 10 3/8x18 chopper on that engine it would make an dramatic increase in speed and performance!

Your Johnson is a 1984........OMC used the code word "introduces" to designate the year.....in the last letter of the model. 1984 was one of the "r" years for OMC

It's an 82 the leter you use is the one after the "C" in the 80's. "C"=8 "N"=2 The "B" in the middle is the one I don't remember, is this a tiller model? Prop that thing to run at 5500 to 5700 WOT. If the motor is a 20" standard electric start the "B" stands for Belgium, in later years we put the "B" at the begining of the model number. The "R" is a manufacturing suffix.
