As the thread title says, how much would a more or less stock pair of early '90s 2.5s burn? I'm looking for WOT and cruise numbers.

Thanks for the help!

General rule of thumb is 10% of the horsepower @ WOT and 3/4 efficiency at cruise. so, if you have a 200 HP motor, figure 20 gals per hour at WOT and 15 at cruise.

That's per motor.

There are other factors that will adjust that figure such as weight of the boat, payload etc.........

It depends on a number of things. Type of hull and weight of hull, EFI or carb, props, what exact cruising speed your refering to.

All other factors aside. A boat with twin 2.5's will get in the range of 2 to 2.5 mpg.

Thanks for the replies. There are a number of 24x7 or 25-26' deep vees on the market at the moment with twin 2.4s or 2.5s. The Martini in the classifieds is an example. We'd be looking for something cheap, so these would probably be carbureted 2.5s that would be run on the back of a deep vee hull in real ocean chop/swells. Are the newer motors that much more efficient?
