1989 25 tiller yamaha..will not swivel..tried heat ...grease will go in the zerk fitting..and come out the friction screw hole but will not swivel..what to do?

Lean the direction you want to go.............. :D


You can try clamping it to something solid and put as much pressure on it as you dare...... but it sounds like you will have to tear it apart.

You can try clamping it to something solid and put as much pressure on it as you dare...... but it sounds like you will have to tear it apart. Not sure but some of the larger tiller motors have a lock to hold the motor straight check and make sure it is not locked in the straight position they had this because of the sailboat setups needed to be able to lock the motor straight because they steered with there rudder. Had the same issue with my motor last year. Soaked the heck out of it with penetrating oil. Including the grease fitting. Did this for a few days and let it sit. Then pumped the sh-- out of the grease fitting and slowly the motor loosened up. Just keep working it back and forth.
