I recently bought a boat that has a 2000 Pro Max 225. Upon getting some work done on the motor I found that the block is that of a 175. My ECU and Flywheel all say Pro Max 225. Most all other parts ive found are universal on the 2.5 EFI motors. Is the block also the same as a 225? At full throttle im getting 6700 RPM with a Tempest 26P and about 72 MPH on GPS. This is on a 19 ft 1991 model Stratos. Are these 225 kind of numbers or 175 kind of numbers????

I bought a Merc "brand new" powerhead as a replacement for my 225 and it came stamped 175 also. It ran the same as the original block so I would guess they interchange.

i have a 225 promax block with a big 175 stamped on it. its not a 175. don't know what it was for. look up the serial number on it. speeds sound good for your boat.

It's not the same. The 175 2.5 has exhaust reliefs. Unless Mercury did something behind the scenes on it. Could it be a 175 sport jet block? Bucause the 240 sport jet black is exactly like the 225PM. Is it painted or unpainted?

Its not painted in anyway just aluminum. It has 175 stamped on the side of the block but im guessing this may be a series or lot number. The motor is a rebuild and in great shape, it has a sportsmaster lwp lower unit. Guess I just expected more speed out of it.

if your still running all stock electronics you may need to step up in pitch. the promax's have a 6750 limiter and you may be on it

What's your setup as far as propshaft height, setback, lower unit, etc... Looks like you're getting 18% slip which seems a bit high.

I have a 20in mid with a lwp with a cone lower unit. My prop is a Tempest 26p. I have a manual jackplate w/ about 6in setback. Im running propshaft about 2in below the pad. Motor appears to be all stock, just had new stator installed with all new gaskets. good comp on all cylinders. New power packs and water pump. Should be getting solid power out of it, just doesnt impress me like everyone that raves about this motor.

The boat is a 19ft Bass Boat, a heavy one at that. 2.5's perform better on lighter hulls.

I have a 2000 model 225PM powerhead as well with the A32 ECU..
My Gambler runs 79mph @ 6600 in the summer loaded with two people with fishing gear. I run a Hydromotive Quad IV X- O/B in a 26P with a Torquemaster gearcase at 2.5" below the pad on a 10" plate.
You do not need any more power you just need to harness what you have. You might see if you can find someone iwth a 26P Trophy plus you try and see if the 4 blade will bite up better..Running the LWP lower submerged wil not help things in the slippage area either..

Yeah I realize the boat is heavy, it will run 72 with just me. I have to come out of it quick cause it chine walks bad. I need to get that fixed before I get more HP, but when I add a passenger with fishing gear and one full tank of fuel top speed is 63 on gps. Im gonna start with prop, and then maybe a SVS? or ACU?

There is speed found in getting it set up. Would amaze ya how much you can pick up and how much easier it can be to drive. .
