What is the best single outboard ruff water boat around.Superboat or progression maybe a checkmate.Cat design or v-hull design. Here on the Cheaspeake bay, it gets a little nasty now and then.

I'd look at the new superboat 30 Y2k Center Console. You need as much length as possible in the bay and with a single engine, i don't think you'll do much better than their new CC.

I like the cats for the bay. It does get rough out there at times and the cats seem to ride across the waves better. Just my opinion.

21 Skater would be my choice.

I personally wouldn't want to be in the bay in a cat any less than 30ft, otherwise you're gonna be eating sea water all day over the bow. And a single engine on a 30ft cat isn't gonna be much fun. JMHO.

The northern bay isn't quite as bad, but its wide where i live and the swells will eat up a little cat.

You will need at least 19 degrees of deadrise to cleve the water and smooth out the ride. All the boats you mention will ride ok in the rough. If you really want to crush the water you should look at any hull with 24 degrees of deadrise and a true V without a pad. Pad bottom boats can ride hard due to the boat landing on the pad all the time. The true V bottom will land softer.

I'm gonna vote 24 Skater single 300XS for the Chesapeake.

For big swells might wanna go 24 Superboat or 24 Progression.

It all depends what your budget is, how big you wanna go, how fast you wanna go, if you looking for a chop or swell boat.....

I disagree, not sure just how rough the Chesapeake is, but I never ever got wet in a 21 or 24 Skater on the roughest days. Maybe a little if it was really bad and the wind blew it into the boat on the 21 but not the 24.

I have heard that, ok maybe you need to go V then if you have to stay single engine. Would be nice if there was a 400XS.

Well,I had a 1998 donzi 28zx and it handled the bay.Ive now got a 1972 donzi 16 with a 200hp johnson. Its a river/flats boat and Ill need to go back-up in size.I would like to stay with an outboard. My wife wants a cabin and a porta-potty.the progression 24 or superboat 24 looks like the boat for me.

Take a look at the velocity, the velocity 220 should not have much of a problem. It has a 22 degree dead rise and a padded bottom. The width of the hull may cause you to be slapped around more than a 21 superboat or progression. The newer velocity 220 has a cuddy with a porty potty.

1. Everything I have seen posted on the chesapeake as far as pics and video's suggests a 24' boat at minimum.
2. I still can't understand how the 22 velocity with that super wide pad can ride decent in rough water at all.
3. Didn't the Chesapeake eat up Beer30's 21 skater with a rogue wave (in all honesty however probably not water anyone would WANT to be out in while in a boat less than 30ft)

I've comfortably taken my 24 progression out in 2-3' waves that were stacked fairly close together, in 4' waves stacked close together it started to get a little hairy, speed was difficult to maintain and the bow was coming very close to stuffing at the peak of almost every wave.

I've comfortably taken my 24 progression out in a 4' swell on Lake huron and had no conerns or worries at all.

My boat tends to ride pretty soft in my opinion, but I can only compare it to a handful of other boats of similar size. It certainly impresses me in stuff smaller than 3' though. (i'd say it rides better than some of the similar sized checkmates I have ridden in, as well as a Sunsation agressor), my buddies 28 sunsation seems to ride about the same, except his length helps tremendously as it gets rougher which leads to a slightly better ride overall. The one and only 32 sunsation I rode in did not impress, it came down hard, but again because of length was a smoother ride then my boat.

My understanding is a 24 super will run a bit smoother than the progression, but I have no real world experience with that.

(begin shameless plug) My boat is for sale. You should buy it. (end shameless plug)

Hands down, any 24x7 hull, but I Prefer Pantera.
