Whats up with this sh** ??? I just bought my Grandson and Son in Law a couple of high $$$ Surefire Flashlights ( both avid hunters ) I was at a sporting goods store not 20 minutes earlier and could have bought at near the same price but if I bought direct the freight was free and I THOUGHT no tax as they were coming from Ca. sold in Texas..WELLLLL got informed that if there is an outlet that sells a product in a state I was ordering from they now charge state sales tax....( Texas is a BIG place what if there was an outlet but 900 miles away ? )Is this something new ? I buy all the time out of state and never been charged sales tax ?????:confused::confused::confused::confused:

Must be another ZIPPY SLIME BALL PLOY to hump the world outta more money......

Jay, I think it's been that way for some time. Summit Racing (my favorite vendor for car stuff) has a retail store in McDonough, Ga. now. They usta' ship EVERYTHING from their warehouse in Ohio before the Ga. outlet opened several years ago. NOW, if you buy something that's shipped direct from Ohio, you still have to pay Ga. Sales Tax if you live in Georgia. People right across the state lines in Ala., Fla. Tenn, NC or SC don't have to pay it. It's been that way here ever since the store opened, maybe 4 or 5 years ago.

Rumor is that the democraps are frothing at the mouth, trying to charge a sales tax on stuff bought out of state over the internet, but so far haven't gotten it done. I think it's just a matter of time.

It has been this way for a long time, I hate to say this but it would help more small business if there was a tax on Internet orders, I fight this everyday in business, to have a 7% advantage right off the bat kills a lot of sales for me, you are suppose to go pay the tax anytime you order stuff but they don't police it and no one does, so the big out of state and some out of country Internet mail order houses reap the benefits, we had one Honda dealer leave Florida since most of his business was in Florida mail order selling to goldwingers, now he can sell parts and not collect tax and beat my price by 7% on items that you aren't allowed to discount on-line. just my thought from my side, and I hate taxes but it isn't a level playing field, Matt

It has been that way for some time Jay. If they have an outlet in your state, you can be hung with the sales tax. 9.75% in our area. Theoratically, you are supposed to declare and pay to our state goverment for any items ordered out of state. I even recieved a query from the state regarding a generator I purchased from an out of state distributor who had apparently turned me in to them.

This isn't an "Obama" thing or a "liberal" thing. It's matter of enforcing tax laws that have already been on the books for decades, to protect public school funding and keep local businesses competitive. The double-standard on sales tax collection helps big corporate retailers, and hurts local independent small businesses. I dare anyone to prove otherwise.

In jersey there is a question on the state income tax form "Did you make any out of state purchases for which you owe nj state tax? If so show amount on line-----------"
I always double my out of state purchase amount so I can contribute more.

Maryland collects sales tax on internet sales if the seller has a physical presence in Maryland regardless of where the item ships from

Same here in Pennsylvania.... the state capital crooks never seem to have enough tax money! But there are some out of state places chaging PA tax at purchase time.

It's similar in other states, too. When the laws were written, people were still shopping at "stores" and buying things, something/ANYTHING, at a cash register. Imagine that...

As a company we have to pay sales tax on any purchase, no matter where it originates or if it's from the internet.

add to the fact that someone gets a tax# here in miami and think they don't have to pay tax on anything they buy. funny... your tax card is for the sprinkler biz but you want to buy all your motorcycle acc. for your newly bought motorcycle, tax exempt. them add the south american purchase and you have an ill will situation. policing it, i was told is on the vendor. go figure.
makes the vendor the bad guy.

taxes you may not always like them, but they keep the big machine running.

...your customers legally do too-- but it's not checked or enforced-- they don't get audited like business owners do. People like us get the shaft, while corporate retail machines get yet another advantage in the marketplace.

Yup, my company (Dynojet Research) is owned by an investment group. They own another place in CA as well, so we have to charge sales tax into CA as well as NV and MT where our two facilities are. Even better, we are closing the CA facility and moving them to MT, yet we STILL must collect CA sales tax because the biz WAS there.

Damn thieves!

Also Jay, Surefire lights are great, but also look into Fenix lights. I've moved from Surefires to Fenix's over the last few years. They are cheaper and all come with LED bulbs. I have a P3D, which is about the same size as a Surefire 6P, and it's LED puts out 225 lumens in max, for 1.8hrs. That's compared to a 6P with the 60 lumen incandescent which has 1hr runtime. For my surefires though, you can buy a replacement lens with an LED that puts out 225lumens for the 6P and extends the runtime to 4+ hrs for $10. Ummm...That has been next to impossible to do, for quite a few years now. Ever since a new dated tax certificate has to be issued on an annual basis here in Florida & a copy of it must be presented at time of purchase. If a vendor doesn't ask for it, he's a moron.
