I bought a 91 vegas this summer through the dealer I work at after the owner left it there and went to prison. I have no history on it but I found a couple things odd.
First it was registered as home made not as a hydrostream it's now straightened out.
There was never a windshield on it and I figured that may have been a option when it was ordered.
It doesn't have emblems on it and I can't see where there were any. I thought it would have the metal ones and some holes from where it would be attatched.
Does this seam odd to anyone or is it just me. I thought it being made the last year it might not have been finished or sold through a dealer. From what I can tell it's always been a MN boat.

I don't have any close up but if there were holes that were filled you would see them from the inside.
I've seen a few others that were ordered as "blanks" without the dash drilled, without a metal fuel tank, and without a windshield-- but they still had logo badges.
Does it have the usual "HSP..." hull ID on the transom?

Yes, it has the hsp in the vin. The blank makes sense but the no emblems and homemade title has me thinking.

It might be one of the last ones that was not up to par "cosmetically" and was sold by the factory not as a hydrostream, per se.

That is what I thought, the back seat has warranty written on it.
The ser # is hsp 548xeb191.
Thanks for the info.

My Viper had no emblems or holes for them. Weird.

someone could have filled the holes in and taken the emblems off, come on its a 17yr old boat, anything could have happened. Also lots of vegas's with out windshileds out there.

My friend had an 88 w/o the windshield, and my old 89 had a windshield...... Good looking boat anyway. What power does it have and what speeds are you seeing?

If it's been repainted....couldn't the emblems have been removed, and holes filled it? That doesn't look like a factory paint job to me....
As far as being registered as a "home build" goes....could it have been a recovered stolen boat, or a salvaged boat that someone bought and tried to re-title it as a home build??
Like others have said...with a 17yr old boat, anything is possible.

Easy to tell if there was holes if the boat was stripped as mine was. I suspect if they were out of emblems that day they shipped boats without them.

It hasn't been painted and like riverman said it would be visible on the backside if they were filled. I don't think it's special in any way just a little odd with the registration and emblems.
Mean dean It has a 86 2.4 200 it was just rebuilt with a re nic. job from Ruck when I got it. I put tight heads on it and a lot of time with set up. Best I've seen was 87.
Here is the story on how I got it.
I started working at a dealer just over a year ago and saw this boat under a old cover. I asked about it and was told the owner wasn't on the up and up and to stay away. it sat all summer and into the fall. By this time the cover was torn and it had filled with snow. I couldn't watch this so I brought it into the shop, dried it out and shrink wrapped it. I asked about it in the spring after doing some digging I found out he just brought it in for a compression test and owed less than $100 on it so I knew there had to be more to the story. I found out the owner is in prison for 22 felony counts of identity theft. I talked my boss into letting me set up a mechanics lean on it since no one else in the shop wanted anything to do with it. After all was said and done I ended up picking it up for $1000 in storage fee's and the $85 shop bill.
Since then I added the jack plate and hyd steering and a bunch of little stuff. Since then I found out who rebuilt the motor and got a copy of his receipt for the past work done, that was close to $4000.

That's a great story Chet, a classic example of being in the right place at the right time! I love the look of the Vegas, kind of understated yet classicly handsome. Also very practical.
