hi i am looking to build a intresting project i have a 16 foot maxum with a 50hp and it is so slow i am looking for loke a 150 175hp to replace it with first will the boat hold it??? second can i swap my power head with a bigger 1 and still use the lower end to save $$$
please piont me in the right direction

the boat MAY be able to hold the extra weight, and no you can keep that lower unit and mid

look for an older inline 6 merc, might be a lil more suited to your application

regardless though you will not be able to keep your mid and lower, unless you powered up with a same displacement merc like a 75hp

oh ok so i do need a lower unit
so i should just look for a compleat setup

JMO, buy the time your done putting a V-6 on and upgrading steering and other things. Might do 60mph, could have sold it and upgraded to a 60+mph boat for close to the same $$. Maxums are nice family cruiser, not realy built to go fast.
