I thought the GT16 had a flat area on the bottom somewhat similar to a pad, but without the sides raised & defined. If that's the case you COULD add some depth to it to give it more definition. You may find that it enhances handling more than increases speed if that's the case. If it goes to a pointed V or rounded V, then a square pad is more likely to make more of a measurable difference. You might want to get some help from somebody that's familiar with boat bottoms and fiberglass before takin' it on.

The "150 bored out to a 200" comment concerns me. There's no such thing as "boring" a 150 out to make more horsepower (generally speaking) and modifications such as port timing changes, carbs, cut heads, etc, etc, shouldn't be undertaken trial and error by someone who's not REAL familiar with two stroke OUTBOARDS in general (whatever you do, don't sick a dirtbike guru on it) and Mercs in particular.

There's a guy there in Looziani' that can help you upgrade the 150 by the screen name here of T-Rex. He's ugly enough to scare the horns off a goat (who he'd probably then try to have his way with) but purdy' good help on makin' the littl'r Mercs get goin' and he could probably point you in the right direction with that bottom too.

Raceman is "right-on" in both his discreption of Rexo and his ability to make things go fast.:D

You can reach Rex at 225-247- 2243. His ugleness can be felt over the phone so don't be surprised if your phone goes dead ever once in awhile.....

I'd try props and set up before spending money modifying a motor. If you insist on more power, its probably more cost effective to sell your current motor and buy bigger than to pay someone to modify it.

Getting a faster boat for the existing motor also works well.

hydrostream viper comes to mind- plenty of inexpensive restorable hulls out there, excellent performance w/ xr6 150 70+ mph:)

I think a Vking could easily go into the 80s with some set up and his XR6. It might be easier to drive than a Viper at those speeds.

I picked up 15 mph by putting my XR4 on a faster boat, so I know it can work.
