I'm looking at possibly getting this boat. It's a 1997 Shockwave Custom 21Ls. Powered by the 454 Mercruiser I/O. It has 275 hours, and the owner swears it'll GPS 80 mph. I really like the layout...and I like the I/O with the 454. It has thru-hull exhaust... and i'd be trading a vehicle worth about $16,500 for it. Pros and cons please.... any input would be helpful!!!

good looking boat. I don't have a clue what it's worth, but take it to a Merc shop and have the engine and drive checked out thouroughly BEFORE you commit...

I talked to Shockwave Customs in Cali, and they hand built 8 of these in 1997. They said the value is between $16,000 to $20,000, but thats THEIR opinion. I havent seen it in person, but i'm told by some unbiased people that it's flawless. I'm trying to mull over in my head that it'll run 80 easy.... with that combo, and appears to be a 24P prop? Sound right to anyone?? The motor is supposed to be 325 Hp.... thats believable.

Boat looks real nice. Ask him to take you for a test drive, put a GPS in your pocket. If at the end it says 80 then buy it

Oh he'll be bringing it to me, and i'll be checking it one end to the other, and taking it for a test drive. I already informed him i'll be checking the speed with my gps. he says it cruises around 65.... but most say that, but when you GPS it.... it's normally at 45!!! I want all opinions, good and bad! Thanks

80 with a 24?
Sure if that stock 454 is turning around 5800+ which is not likely.

As long as it passes YOUR tests, IMHO get it
Loud exhaust is great, I have offshores on my BBC, but can get old and you in trouble$, switchable cutouts can fix that, if it doesn't already have them. :p
Best of luck if ya get her.

I asked him about what rpm's the motor would max out at... and he said that he gets right at 80 mph at 6000-6200 rpms. I'm not sure if these motors are a notch or two above stock or what..... or if he just doesn't know what he's talking about.
