I have a 1993 200hp mercury with the three ram tilt and trim system. last time out the motor got stuck in the up position. while drilling out the manual release valve (seized), I messed up the threads a little. I got a new release valve and it will only screw in a turn or so. is there a tap to re-cut these threads??? I really don't want to replace the whole trim assembly. please help...http://forums.iboats.com/images/smilies/confused.gif

It can be re cut, you need a bottom tap or a thread chase, and you'll have to take the trim unit off. Make sure you flush it out and there's no cuttings left inside. Off the top of my head I don't remember the thread, but take the valve to your favourite machine shop supply store and they should be able to tell you what tap you need.

Thanks for the reply WD, it didn't look like a normal thread size, but after you said that I was able to match it to a 1/2 inch tap and got the hole re-cut. vaccumed out shavings and got the valve re-installed...:D
