 glastron/carlson and I belive I remember Molinari being in the mix. If I remember correctly that is the same bottom as their single seat race boat. this is what I like most about Scream and Fly, I was just sitting around thinkin the day is just passing away and then this, thanks  out

Neat videos. They give a good idea of the pitch, but don't BEGIN to show the volume. I always said my old Kitson was louder than a Top Fuel car, and I still believe it. They are absolutely deafening.

It must be just me, but that thing looks like its riding really heavy, turning about 9,000rpm and going about 45mph.

Still the most awesome thing ive seen all weekend.

It looks like it wasn't trimmed out. It seems to be riding alot better in some of the other videos.

If you notice, the driver is wearing hearing protection. I've heard one of those motors several years ago and it was crazy loud. If I ever owned one of those I'm sure the property owners association at the lake would all get together to ban it.

What a great video of an old Challenger and an old Merc stacker.

It's cool to see the the ol' machinery still on the water... I have heard some old 750cc bikes with that kind of exhaust and they are very loud, so I'm sure the outboards are crazy loud on the water... It was even so loud it caused a fish to jump out of the water to get away from the boat at 1:24 in the vid, mighta been an OMC fish :p..

Megaphones REALLY amplify the noise, even compared to what a straight pipe would be like. Ever see an old football picture from the 30's or 40's where the cheerleaders had megaphones? It made their shoutin' audible up on the stands. I'm not exagerating when I say that mine seemed louder than a top fueler. The DNR came by and told me that if I ever cranked it again on my boatramp they'd write me a ticket.:(

They don't turn as hard as you'd think from the noise. Inline rods wouldn't stand ANYTHING LIKE 9000 RPM, but the shrill exhaust tone made it sound like it. The powerband was also VERY narrow.......... they were fairly doggy down low and then SUDDENLY got on the pipes and pulled hard. Merc injected water in the elbows in the second generation stacks to give the boat more grunt off the corners. The water was controlled by electic solenoids and the driver would wet the stacks in the corner and then dry em back out down the straightaway for top end speed. The water made the SLIGHTLY quieter also. I've seen another set in a picture that's angled upward like the one in the videos, but MOST ALL of em that were running around were straight out the back without the angle.

That is unreal.
Did some one at one time make pipes like this for the mercury v-6.

No, Merc switched to internal tuning that went even faster between the time of these motors and the V-6

You guys are both right about the Challenger ... in this instance it is a model name used by Carlson

The Carlson single seater used a different bottom

Yes i have had the boat for a while and put the stacks on every now and then.
We are lucky no one on our river seems to mind the noise.
I will be putting them on this boat next year and go a little faster with the sound.

Love the boats. It's great to see someone into the old Glastrons and old Mercs. Someday I want to get a Challenger and I was real close to buying that CT-15 that was just on Ebay.

Dale likes his Glastrons. Showed up at this years cabin urn with a Carlson that had a hot 406 and ran about 70 or so. The 406 isn't nearly as loud as the little gold one.
