One more, Segar..and the best!..(I always have some story!)..and as old as me too, Segar, this rip coming, is the last part, my life, before age showed up, now 60! At 41, I packed up the Harley bagger, did a 27 day C/C Illinois, to the west coast and back....6700 miles total. When in Colorado, I camped out at 12,000 feet.outside "Durango", and morning, packed up the bike, and after out the "dogpatch,, off downhill into 'Silverton." . Fired the motor up, and that was just to get back on the road..then, shut it off, cassette still on, speakers blasting, this Segar rip, and lasted me all the way down into the valley! Dunno if it was God, smiling at me, our my "Angels", but I was in Heaven, that night and day..and as only a week then road, 3 more to go, and somehow, something hit me.."Still like a "Rock", dude!...one of many, C/C rides, and my old "Bagger', all 4 of use, "the bike, me. myself, and I"...(WAIT A MINUTE!..I'm a "Gemini", so that would be the "twins", me?, other 3?..probably why as alone, why I always got a giggle, middle of Bumpfreak, USA", as those "perfect old long ago passed, "Angels", are saying.."..hanging off the back?.."ROCK ON DUDE...GO FOR IT!

Let me do this, as been at it side a bit..

Over the years, done MANY, "bike", C/C rides, the US. Heres a pic, think 1991, Illinois, to the west coast ride, and back, good 27 days, 6700 miles, me and myself. Got out Durango, over to the top mountains, camped at 12,000 feet, (next morning, pack up, and down to Silverton).., afternoon mountain showers, Thunder Echo's", the canyons. Went away, cleared up, and the best sunset seen yet. Got out the tent at 3 am, gotta whiz, temp 31 degrees now..looked up. Well John had it nailed.."billion stars"..PERFECT quiet, very thin air to breathe...guess best to say, as done it..a fine..."Rocky Mountain High!"
First pic, the Rockies, second is here, Mt Rainier, in June. next in Idaho..( I went all the way north, Idaho, into Montana, "Glacier Nat Park, down to Red Lodge, MT, and did the best road in the US!.."Beartooth HWY"..(a link it, its a MUST DO IN LIFE RIDE).... and then south, through Yellowstone, and the last pic, is Jackson Hole, the lake. Best ride my damn life!..(that year anyway, next year, month off?..do some where else "diff"! And a week away from heading west, too "Dip the front tire, in the "Pacific Ocean!..then go home!...(damn, bad part the trip, back to "reality!"..
Link, the "Beartooth"..first..

Now, pix, and Denver..RMH..

She has "gone home, as with my Uncle Ed, died way early in life, cancer", but.."Chubby?..gotta love the guy!, as he still .."Twist"!..(without tossing his back out too?!"..HA!)

Robby how have you been?? I haven't been around much lately... Been busy in work. Hope all is well in your life. I have been getting myself ready to go in for gastric bypass surgery. I have a problem in my esophagus and that seems to be the best way of protecting it from getting worse plus my butt could stand to get smaller :eek::o:smiletest:

I have a problem in my esophagus and that seems to be the best way of protecting it from getting worse plus my butt could stand to get smaller :eek::o:smiletest:

5 weeks now with this Sciatic BS..much better, leg still hurts, limping, but getting better daily now. Weather still sucks, won't warm up, but thats normal PNW....called life!

Lifted a bike wrong on the center stand, lower back muscle. Week later, the Scatic went out, just putting on a damn tight sneaker! Second time Sciatic attack, 3 years ago, moving drywall. Scaitic sucks..constant pain. Usual 6-8 weeks to forget about it. But need to watch how I pick stuff up. I read your other thread too.,.. sucks that...wish the best..

You know as well as I and others, anticipation of any medical event, is a hell of a lot more stressful, "brain pain", than the event itself. Search the web, for forums dealing with any med procedure...be surprised what ya come up with, as so many been there before. Lots of good advice.

Posted here, "Lounge". but needs here too,..This old beat up Nam vet, still knows, we fought for something..at least I do.. True story, to come..

1993, Milwaukee, Harley Davidson Birthday, 90th, celebration..(yes,
was there too in the first "party", the 85th, gotta love
Milwaukee/Summerfest grounds, 200,000 + bikers!). But in 93,
.."Challenger", was there. and yes, we BUILT the "External fuel tank",
at Reynolds, the Space Shuttle, and remember when it blew up
too...came over the plant wide intercom speakers, and the whole 77
square acres plant, went silent, HOPING, it was not our fault. Sad
day. But, in 1993, this magnificent bird, was there at the HD event.
People could walk up calmly, and "Hooded head"...the bird, to stay
calm, but I stroked the beast, got a little "chirp from it", and the
feeling on that magnificent birds feathers...guess ya had to be there.

Glad I did, but sad, the country's National Bird, which should be at
any "Super Bowl", has been replaced with Janet Jackson's "wardrobe
malfunction", and aint got any better since........"Bye Bye, miss
American pie?

L/S, "Freebird"..has so much meaning, that can apply to many. I have a childhood friend, my "first kiss, to see if real "cooties", off girls?").. but has a been a Nurse, decades, Meredith, think brought up before, has been into year, here..she has "Lou Geriged's disease..? She is my age, 60, done more for many, than many will ever know..she has little time left earth, muscle mass is toast, and her Nam Vet hubby, is slowing losing his eyesite, from Nam , Agent Orange. But they are "solid, "knowing"...lousy outcome..oh well, more "Freebird".,.,

"Hate to say, but when I got out Nam, went home Illinois, town was not the same, most old friends gone, then had to go to Ft Sill, OK. There was a small lake there, big party spot, but I new none the locals... outsider/military. Sat there drinking "Ripple", many nights, listening Neil Young. The following. Even starting doing "No Doz", to stay awake, but keep drinking. I don't care what people say about kids in war, as the crap now, way diff than Nam, but, it damn sure sticks with ya, through life. young, in a distant land under fire, ..well, ..oh well, years ago, still see what, and the why, done years ago.."kill the pain", life. Ya a just gotta work it out in YOUR head, as no one can save you, but the dude in the mirror..and ya gotta be honest, with that person"

Speaking live vs records, some bands MUCH better live. Still remember my first major concert after out of the service. Wishbone Ash opened for Black Sabbath. All had the house rocking to the foundation!

Doing fine! Ya been tearing up Blarneys? Still miss the Chain!
Damn, I still remember that concert so well..(and we were pretty well wasted too!). Probably many there was there first concert too, as many were Nam Vets, like me, still trying to figure out the real "world". No one knew of Wishbone Ash, but damn, they blew us away, LOUD, but clear as a bell, great harmony...seen Chicago Amphitheater. Swear half were ready to leave after, as good'nuff! Then? Oh Christ, Black Sabbath. They not only kicked it up a notch, but took it to a level many never been before!

Happened to catch a late nite, "True Hollywood stories"..Steve Tyler and Liv, and done long ago, but covered his/her life. LOTS vid's, talk, of the "summer house", Sunapee!

DAMN, as was long ago the vid..(think 2007?)...but Sue, and Mark...thought of ya!

Hugs children, have simple fun in life, money buys a headache, if to much it. Just live easy..."day at a time"..tomorrow be way different, or doubt the "same", as that would be very boring.."damn, did this YESTERDAY!":p;):D:thumbsup:

Thats cool! Seems like many real people have respect for the "famous", and when they are simple living their life, let them mostly live it normal. Not all gaga, camera in face, bugging them. Like the NHRA races. Ya can't even get near Force's pit, after race over..(and I don't care too, like him as a racer, but he's no God), but sat and rapped with Ron Capps with a few others, and he's a stand up guy. Always likes Steve, wish I could sit and BS with him too someday. But, live and let live.

The Ballad of the Green Berets....Sgt Barry Sadler

Yes Sir, but, as a old Nam Vet, that "well earned, Green Beret", has been .."tarnished", over the years since, more "colors". Have a damn good friend, from HS, one the toughest bastards known, piss him off, only a 5 foot, 9 dude, 180 ponder, but FAST AS crap, slapping ya stupid. If needed. Anyway, we both went to Nam, 1969, he did the GB training..(VERY FEW, come out the toughest "training", on earth. only the best of the best, get the "honor", to wear that Green Bennie!).
Anyway, seems now, military, red, brown, ?..too many colors, that "Beret"...NOT saying those have earned it...aint "done the "course", to get in, but if you ever see a "Green Beret", some old fart now....? They fuccing earned it, training, and THEN? Went to the worst "hell pit", on earth, called Nam. And yep, we both are still cooking fine, and STILL, take crap spit from no one..never did, never will. Sorry if I get a little "touchy", subject, but...lived it, and so few really know the truth, that BS war. And also, not "old songs", but damn good books, Nam.

Should be Amazon, "Letter's home from Vietnam"...READ THAT!...and a true story..(very graphic), 400 pages..(I can't get past page 100, reading..simple very bad mems)..Written Ketwig, "And a hard rain fell"..Nam Vet. Let me find some links. READ those two books, and many will REALLY understand..'Nam Vet's". Lost a damn good childhood friend in Nam too. 'Stevie". Born on News Years day, killed Christmas Eve, in Nam, 19 years later..(not fighting anyone either, but way in the bush, under sniper fire, called in Artillery fire, someone did the wrong coordinates, and as them a outpost bush, temp Firebase, well...the damn rounds came in heavy. On them. 13 killed. RIP, Stevie, my great old friend..(and HE was one tough SOB TOO!) Pic Steve, next..

Robby321
10-21-2011, 10:57 PM
Damnit!...heres story, Steve..(sent to his family)

My best memory of him was when we were in Little League. We took that game day VERY seriously. We would suit up, and lay down for 1/2 hour to relax and concentrate. Then walk a mile to the game to loosen up. Believe it or not, I remember one day I made an outstanding play at shortstop, and was cheered by all. We come in to go to bat, and Steve comes up to the plate and points at the fence just like Babe Ruth would do.........sure enough, over the fence! Yep, and we won the game too! He was very athletic.
He was (as I was too) a "Rebel" as the old folks called us, but you know, that kid was a gentle giant. A heart of gold, and really a old softy. He survived not the best of childhoods, and this latest news is heartbreaking, to say the least
And going "Airborne"? I don't think he would have had it any other way. Sad that he was killed by friendly fire on Christmas Eve. I believe he's in a special place now, and deserves it. He had a short, hard life and died at a young age. Rest in peace my friend.....

Also, just tossed out the shop, gearhead friends, my.."Famous Happy Hours Partys", every Friday, be here, or be be square! Did too much beer, great times "bench racing".
Anyway, link the books...(read, learn..NOT fiction!"..and closing in on FOUR DECADES, ago! (Yeah, few remember "history"..long ago, not lived, and somehow I remember that, but what I did yesterday, was..??????????)

http://www.amazon.com/Dear-America-Letters-Home-Vietnam/dp/0393323048

"An overwhelmingly eloquent book of the purest and most simple writing on Vietnam."—David Halberstam
More than twenty-five years after the official end of the Vietnam War, Dear America allows us to witness the war firsthand through the eyes of the men and women who served in Vietnam. In this collection of more than 200 letters, they share their first impressions of the rigors of life in the bush, their longing for home and family, their emotions over the conduct of the war, and their ache at the loss of a friend in battle. Poignant in their rare honesty, the letters from Vietnam are "riveting,...extraordinary by [their] very ordinariness...for the most part, neither deep nor philosophical, only very, very human" (Los Angeles Times). Revealing the complex emotions and daily realities of fighting in the war, these close accounts offer a powerful, uniquely personal portrait of the many faces of Vietnam's veterans. Over 100,000 copies sold.

http://www.amazon.com/hard-rain-fell-Vietnam/dp/157071987X

Another recovered war memoir this one with a first printing of 15,000 is John Ketwig's ...And a Hard Rain Fell: A GI's True Story of the War in Vietnam, first published in 1985. Enlisting to avoid the draft in 1966, Ketwig ended up a platoon sergeant in Thailand, "in charge of 43 Americans and numerous Thais." He is articulate and perceptive throughout, voicing doubt, witnessing horrors, trying to fit in on returning. Ketwig has supplied eight pages of new photos and a new introduction for this edition; the press chat notes that Ketwig will do an NPR affiliate tour, and that the book is a "staple" in campus Vietnam courses.

Rock on, ya all..Robby...:p;):D:thumbsup:

In my old corvette, all it was, was worked over motor, the T-Tops off, big "Amp", running the rear speakers, her "right seat", woofing at all.."we be cool". And when I blasted ZZ...? Yeah damn right, dogs can smile! Best "Blond", known. Furry little bitch though, talked funny, but always by my side, until the "needle". Stevie "Guitar Miller"...one my favorite's, back in the 70's Illinois. Spend the weekend the Fox Lake Chain/Blarneys. Total zero sleep, W/E, constant party, cases of beer consumed, the tiny "spoon", keep ya up, 50 gallons gas used the old Switzercraft/XS1500. Sunday nite, sunburnt, simple worn out, lock the lake house up, head the 50 mile trip home. Back to the "grind", Monday. Had enough AC/DC, all W/E, use to put on Steve, or REO, the way home in the ride, passed out GF next to me. The Fox Lake cops, going south "12", would watch us leaving, and any too wasted, pulled over. Back then, most knew all, and I was.."always" waved off.."See ya next week!" Dammit, I REALLY miss the 70's, back there then. Blarneys 1/4 the size now, no "Ferrys" to get there, no one got there but by boat. And every one knew each other. Best times known. And no way, EVER forgotten either.

ETEC, ya SOB, I got ya on my little left to do in life, "Bucket List", kinda done all ..New, done, been there , done that anyway....... now need to go see "that what did"...need to see again. Last time the Chain, seeing old friends, was 2006...(favorite "Happy Ours Resort", next the channel to our crib, on Pistakee, between Joe's.."Puppet Bar", the tip, and that big Marina, first into town, from the south, on Rt 12..DAMN, name escapes now..and both "bars", are now been leveled, condo's now..sad..) 2013, need a month/2, road trip back east. Still have many friends there, to crash, but simple me, I'll buy the beer and gas, you only gotta do the "throttle" You show me stuff now, and I can tell ya what at one time it "was"..

PS. "if ya didn't grow up the "Fox Chain", or ever ran it, anytime from the 50's, to now? The summer's, boats, with some the BEST people known, then frozen Chain, winters, on sleds, or not even recent, .."never did the "experience", what it still is there, and ya say ya seen it all in life?. Sorry, you are missing something here..again

"if ya didn't grow up the "Fox Chain", or ever ran it, anytime from the 50's, to now? The summer's, boats, with some the BEST people known, then frozen Chain, winters, on sleds, or not even recent, .."never did the "experience", ..(nuf me..kids back there, be well!..pic my old Swit..(damn, in my 60's now, retired 17 years a pension, and I keep thinking, as getting old, I'm pretty sure, "making memory's", are over. Crazy youth?.."has left the building" BUT, what I DID do, still fresh as always. Guess what old farts only got to "relate", but never any BS though.

This is a damn good thread, some songs brought up MANY mems!. What I seem to remember, many, that first "heard", always brings up, something who/was/ as at/..with, my wild days!.

War Of The Worlds.
I am a avid fan of the Great Bands and composers of my time. But this one has always stuck out infront. It is the musical version of H.G. Wells Radio Play put to music By Jeff Wayne.
Jeff has composed way over 3000 songs, commercials etc.
Please listen in full and a set of headphones will astound you. Recorded on 48 tracks in 1978:eek:. Some of the greatest musicians and actors of our time.

Narrated by Richard Burton (the actor) him self. Justin Hayword, David Essex and many more.

The song is:

Forever Autumn. The album has 13 tracks but this song is the Bomb!!!

I got ya. Alot do have less than adequate PC speakers. . I have a set of Harman Karden hooked to my puter. Kick Arss self amplified. They also have a mini headphone jack!!!!!!!

Wife thinks I loony some time when I kick them in the butt.

I have a stereo system from hell. All Carver and Bose speakers (3500 watts).

But yes I wish I could send this to you via some sort and you listen on your good stereo.

You could always burn a CD from my link if you have the capability and a CD player in your shop.

Gordon Lightfoot is good stuff, Summertime Dream is one of my all time favorite albums, on one of my drives to Alaska I must have played it 400 times back to back.

Gordon's drummer and bass player are friends of mine. The drummer, Barry, and his wife have place two doors over from my lake house. He's had a few thrill rides in the HST, believe me! Great bunch of guys with the band. The guitar player, Terry, recently passed away. His replacement, Carter, is great. Terry would approve.

Although Gordon is 70, he still puts on a great show. I see him when they are in town. They play smaller venues of like 1500. If you have a chance to see the show, I recommend it while you can!

Paul I tend to lean towards the Made in America classic Amps. Adcom, Carver, Kenwood, McIntosh, Marantz and Phase linier. They are still repairable if something goes wrong unlike the throw away crap on the market today.

Personally I prefer Carver, McIntosh & Marrantz. When I had my house fire I found alot on E-bay to replace what I had lost. If you shop smart you can still find some good deals. I am a component man all the way. Pre Amp, Amp(s), Tuner, CD player, Graphic Egualizer etc. When a all in one unit goes bad you are down until it is repaired.

But If I were to choose a all in one AMP/Tuner it woild have to be Marrantz. I still have a Marrantz 2220 B That all I have done is replace a couple illumination bulbs. And it still kicks arzz better than any of this crap on the market today.

The ones I mentioned were way ahead of their time in low total harmonic distortion and the more you crank them up the better they sound. Carver and McIntosh are still pricy. You can have the best components made to man but if you don't have the speakers to back them up it's a total wash.

But if you want to sit on your keester and play with the volume etc you pretty much have to settle for the Made in where ever stuff.

Paul:

I actually checked out the Bay after your response. There are some really nice Carver pieces on there (one in Paticular) Like I need another Pre Amp. Bob Carver Sunfire Pre-Amp Theater Grand Processor II

This thing sold for $3400.00 new. Now I know why I didn't buy one. But I just might jump on this one. It blows away my 4000t, and that is/was the top cookie for home high end use.

Wishbone Ash are a British rock band who achieved success in the early and mid-1970s. Their popular records included Wishbone Ash (1970), Argus (1972), There's the Rub (1974), and New England (1976). They were one of the first of many bands to come who used twin lead guitars.

Wishbone Ash are considered to be one of the major innovators of the harmony twin lead guitar format. Their contributions helped in Powell and Turner being voted "Two Of The Ten Most Important Guitarists In Rock History" (Traffic magazine 1989), and part of the "Top 20 Guitarists Of All Time" (Rolling Stone). Melody Maker (1972) described Ted Turner and Andy Powell as "the most interesting two guitar team since the days when Beck and Page graced The Yardbirds".

Formed in Torquay, Devon, in 1969, out of the ashes of trio The Empty Vessels (originally known as The Torinoes, later briefly renamed Tanglewood in 1969), which had been formed by Wishbone Ash's founding member Martin Turner (bass/vocals) in 1963 and complemented by Steve Upton (drums and percussion) in 1966. The original Wishbone Ash line-up was completed by guitarists/vocalists Andy Powell and Ted Turner. In 1974, Ted Turner left the band, and was replaced by Laurie Wisefield.[1] The band continued on with strong critical and commercial success until 1980.

After revolving line-ups featuring former members from King Crimson, Trapeze, and Uriah Heep, Wisefield left in 1985. In 1987, however, the original line-up reunited for several albums - Nouveau Calls, Here to Hear, and Strange Affair - until 1990, when Upton quit the band. After Martin Turner was replaced in 1991, the band recorded The Ash Live in Chicago, before Ted Turner left in 1993.[1] Since 1995, the band have continued with mixed critical and commercial success, changing members on several albums. In 2004, Martin Turner formed his own version of Wishbone Ash, and tours frequently.
