And do a good Midwest pizza someday soon..think of me, save me a slice..then eat it anyway!:thumbsup: I still love ..DEARLY, ya old Midwest dudes, and Dudettes..ya got something, not explained..(like a good Happy Hour"?...and a touch "crazy"!)..tough people back there..I miss them. Planning a road trip back 2012..gas up Morris..hang around..still there..?...love to BS ya..

And ..hope ya all had a good, peaceful day with friends, family, feed well, and be blessed, with a "bountiful of food?" NAH..TOYS! I could go days, 20-50WT..who needs water!

But ya gotta feel sorry, the zillion Turkeys..(just kidding..Gods way to keep us going, with food, energy.."more toys?"..)..never grow up. Love ya kids, yer a gas.

Make sure you look me up when you get back. We'll get a pizza and enjoy it at the river.

Lets not go political here, too much fun as it is..just had to "think those Carbon credits"...:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::icon_bs:

Neat story, had to be good guy's, named Denny,LOL, just trickin. The Mississippi had to almost be a creek up that far. The old cobalt jets were heavy, but built well. That would've been a blast, runnin the length of the Mississip. Something to talk about for ever.

Did they make it on the Johnny Carson show?

I remember seeing a rejection letter saying it wasn't newsworthy enough or something to that effect.

On the Cobalts..friend in Fox lake had one..SOLID, 460 Ford..jet..bought new..he was given a piece that was cut out the mold. Not his, but to show the solid. Swear, it was one inch thick...damn boats NEVER flexed!

That is the reason they went with it. We out ran a tornado once in it across the lake,4 foot waves.Pounded through as if they were nothing.Big ugly tri-hull. One of the sponsers was Cobalt, also Cypress Gardens and Golden Loaf Flour Company. I will try to get some pics from my uncle.

Same kind of guy here Robby. Tony Sitar. His Dad was a lake x guy in the 60s and 70s, tony is a merc guru, knows em like the back of his hand. He did mine while I was doing the boat.

Its a cutie! Still looking for a 15 sider..damn old back can't take the Flatty, hitting a wake..need a V. And miss that trimmed out, riding the prop, the tail"..ya know what I mean..sawing the wheel, keep it from chine walking..."on the pad"..
OH yeah, forgot..speed the Flatty mine? Just broke it in. Running a 2 blade SS cup, 12x24. Pitot loses water, so not known WOT MPH. Don't matter. Its a little "drag master!". Do a punch from sitting, let the Merc sing, spins to about 3500, prop grabs, down to 2000 plus, then simple hang the hell on, and drive, as it spins to about 5700 R's..real blast.. tell myself.."I getting to old for this ****..but I will go to my casket..that damn "grin"!:D

And the Jetskis..?..FEAR ME!.."come on..what ya got?"

The orig ya posted, was like going back in time, SUPER JAMMING, as heard the words, but the graphics, which I saw not as graphics..BUT...those "old days"..when..."here, this will make ya see super colors"..the tune in, drop out, crazy days, doing "acid"..LSD if you will...after Nam, and then a short stateside, then to Germany. Service. That pretty well somehow explains..how ya saw reality, on "wasted", "the original".."little blue pill"..(Microdots):thumbsup:
Remember, the old "Blacklite" days, the "VIVID COLORED" posters the lite was shown on! Never forget one nite, me, probably 6 others, get way wasted acid, lock ourselves in a room, the barracks. Super music, Lava lamps, blacklites, then go visit another world for 6 hours, and never leave the room, drinking wine, toking hash, freaking zombies... (why we locked the door..normal people were NOT allowed...never would figure them out anyway.
I remember Gary Dyer, .(this was the Peace/Love/Dove ..days)..he was so wasted, he sat in front of a blacklite poster from ..damn..can't think the last name..Peter..something..drew them..(someone has to remember..I remember one his posters.."Save The Bales"..think boats, drug runners, smoke, if busted, CG, tossed over the side.
Anyway, Gary stared at the poster for 4 hours, and every 10 minutes.."Hey come and look at this!" Same damn poster, just a brain thing, probably the music somehow changed the poster? Just to damn much fun.
And I don't mind shoving stuff, my life, like this on, to ya all. Come'on! Nam didn't kill me, smoking.."what ya got?"..didn't kill me, drugs didn't kill me, job didn't kill me, turning beer into "water a bush", didn't kill me, people I know don't want to kill me, probably 3-4, HUNDRED THOUSAND miles motorcycles, didn't kill me... damn , even like myself, warts and all! And my dog thinks I'm the .."great white hunter"..
And be 60 June 13th, next year! Musta done something right, and treated others right. God, and my Angels..say "keep'em around..we can't let good stories go to waste, and he still makes more?"
I gotta show ya some pix, the dudes I hung with in Germany. Wish I had more pix us in Nam..have many, but ..well...I mostly share those, with other Vets..that was our life, and we need no captions, or explanations..but trust me..we had a gas..IF..we came home.
Gotta find some Germany pix..post'em..ya all keep the music up! Robby

Robby if that is you ,you should be happy you havent been in there:iagree:

Ya got that right..people like that, the "monied", are phony as hell, and care less that crowd...rather deal with real people, I don't care if ya live homeless under a bridge..just means ya got real, to talk to me about. I see it here. I know a few, the monied, that live down from me waterfront, the half mill cribs.
I get along with all, but they have very little real friends. I've seen it. We have a big 4th July HOA wide party here, water front, park/marina all day, ending with 3 hours fireworks, dusk to midnite. As private, I'm out on the MiniTrail 70 Honda, all day/nite. We started a parade this year, for the kids..dress up yer pets, us old farts, go karts and minis...old cars, musclecars, "got it ?..bring it". Super time. BUT..it went down "there street", and a few who are so stupid, to put out yellow tape, and signs.."NO PARKING". ..and never came out to watch.
Well F&*K YOU..only 500 cribs here, ALL yer neighbors, end the road peninsula.
We are rural, zero "fire hydrants"..just depend on the volunteers, and trucks with water to put it out, if ya ever have a house fire. And I tell some, who piss me off, "uppity".."Look ..I can do the simple run over with a fire extinguisher, the help ya, or a Fu%$&king lawn chair, and Hotdogs on a long stick, sit back.. enjoy..yer call.

Oh yeah..the 4th later? The monied the water front, is dead. But 2 streets up the hill...the the party goes until dawn.."damn those "little people"..there having fun, and I aint"..and its there prob, not mine..

Few pix, the crazies in Germany..sitting in the park Hanue..(sp), Germany, circa 1971. All just outta Nam. Smoking a pipe fulla hash, drinking wine..(hash maybe not legal, but drinking wine was..as the great beer..walk the "strasse."..(street)...alcohol stands ever 100 yards, the no speed limits Autobahn, legal prostitution ..DAMN..why DID I want to go home?)..??????..Anyway, enjoy the pix. last is the photag, who took them. he was a clerk, gave me the GED test, as I was thrown out HS.."for smoking in the bathroom!". Took the test..dude says..and serious here.."ya scored like a junior college dude..good job!" More ..of the best times life, real people. IGNORE..my flattened out hair..always was a curly headed dude..I need to post a pic, a little later..me real..
Dude that took the pix..I aint seen/heard..those in 38 years, but there antics, ways, burned in my brain, and a KNOW..they are still out there..living life.
I wish I had a pic, of when we first came out Nam. Ended up Ft Sill, OK, for a few months, before off again, overseas. The dude was named ..(really)..Thomas V, Thomas. Freaking "fungi'. We are in a bar, Lawton, OK. we come out the bar, and its below a 3 story building. He says.."lets do this!". We get out the street..and says.."look up and point!..the pigeons, on the gutter..let me handle it...just keep pointing and say "damn".
Soon we have a crowd looking up, old people, wonderers, just what going down up there. Soon a crowd is looking up, maybe 20 pigeons on the gutter ..(I DON"T even know what he's up too!)
Soon says.."HEY, get a NET...that third one from the left?.."he's gonna jump off, commit suicide!"...(and the crowd went crazy)
38 years ago, but like yesterday to me..ya meet real people, in the service, all "walks, life"....dude was super intelligent, and knew too damn easy ..to make ya laugh...was sooooo..simple! But ya never saw it coming...then he would blind side ya..with funny, and that damn grin..."GOTCHA!"..anyway, some pix..(hang on. gotta add'em") pic will be here..gotta do a Redo"

Before I get too far ahead here, the dude that took those old Germany pix, was a super photag..and a hell of a nice guy. That one pic, us lighting up cigarettes, that old couple in the background.."smelling the new..(it was spring)..blooms off trees)..is priceless to me.
I was in the photo then front, but now? I'm getting closer to that old couple, in the back.
And good for me...(ya all too)..yeah, life has been a struggle at times, comes with good times, bad times, never came with a rule book...just do the best ya can, what lifes throws at ya...and just trudge on..never give up.
I bet those 3 other characters are still cooking somewhere...and it would be a gas if we all got back together, sit here the shop, and simply bullchit for days. I gotta do some internet searching/posting, the "when"..see if I can dig them out the woodwork.
Have found many (mostly HS) since the internet came about. The long ago lost contact, but never forgotten. Making enemies takes a second...making old friends?...lotta work.

Back to the Janis Joplin riff..girl had a SUPER voice, poured her heart out a song, but sadly, like Jimi, Jim Morrison, others.."horse"..in the arm..doing "tracks"...well, they simply went down too damn young...but put there "Mark", on many, and been decades. I done my share of "stuff"..but never a "needle".

That's kinda a tough one for me to hear, (but great)..as it was in the movie.."Apocalypse Now".. Which I refused to even watch, when it came out, years later. out of Nam. I did NOT, want to see some movie, depicting what I did real. But relented, as some friends had it on a Vid, and more or less told me to at least watch it..(its a long sucker..and now my favorite..and any after sucked..just blood and guts), A/N..showed emotion.
Well, I did...and I'll tell ya what...its the best description of Nam to date.

Super film...pretty well ..VERY ACCURATE. And thanks for posting it. My dog needs a walk, I need some fresh air too, and will go down a few houses over, sit and BS, the 66 year old Nam Chopper vet, down there. Like said, made it out Nam..but does a VA hospital weekly..sister takes care of him. Good dude, good stories, back fulla metal still..too near the spine, and nerves, for surgery..(shrapnel..shot down in a chopper)..hard to walk.

I just called his sister..(Dave does little but "whittle"..build model ships, sits out side in the carport, have a few beers, and a smoke). We BS good.
Told her.."can Dave come out and play?". Jeezz, he's 66, I'm 60 soon, and we are still asking permission ..someone.."to play"?
I'll bring the camera...
nite all...be well, thanks again for the thread dude, and work involved. But I AM, a little pissed off ya for starting it...I aint got crap done around here, for a MONTH..justa dancing, doing memes:thumbsup:..screw the "list to do"..

I'm back!...again good time down there. 3 hours, BSing, knocking down a few. Took a few pix..Dave, and my doggy, and his sister, him, ..(and my mutt always in the pic..my baby, love shoved to all, and she, loved by all.)
Dave is pretty well Fu$^d up, only 66, but like an old man. But we still relate the old days, him a Nam chopper jockey,. also rated C-130's..more. back then, if ya could take off without crashing..you were cool. He was there, the first breed in, early 60's, and before the "build up", Nam.
Anyway, a few pix, him, Sis, taken tonite..(she's pushing middle 70's..great girl, super COOK!)
And to follow are (the first vid..after the pix), is one he searched up..(I set him up a laptop)...and its one I never seen before..9 minutes, but with the Nam chopper pix, is good music...chit he flew..just a kid.
The next vid, is more music, but Gunship runs. Lots of Minigun footage..(I HAVE, here, holds my gun cleaning stuff, a Minigun ammo box. The Mini, shoots 6000 rounds a minute..just a freaking .BBBBRRRRRRPP, ..ammo box m/t!. And in the vid, remember, the solid red flame, off it? Only every 6th round was a "tracer..(red)..there were 5 more in between! Just as I was leaving Nam, we got our first Minigun. ..for the truck. Only got to fire it once, but it was a freaking MONSTER!..made that old M-60 machine gun, seem like a old Black powder rifle!

I was a guntruck Mech, on convoys, (pix some other day..don't feel like going back there at the moment)..in the highlands, 2 corp. Plieku. We had twin M-60's, and a 50 caliber, and of course the M-16's, M-79 grenade riot guns, and simple, young, stupid "balls"..made of stone. Trust, me, we had a ball, as we always KNEW..if chit hit the fan.."call in the jets for fire power", and those 2 "blades".."get us the f%^k OUTTA HERE!
And ya can't beat a free chopper ride, unless you were the poor soul, hanging outside, in a "basket'..next stop was a body bag...then a call, to your family, with crap they never wanted to hear.
And last vid, is from us BSning..somehow David Allen Cole was brought up.. We could NOT come up with the title song name..DAC..singing .."I' was drunk, the day my mama got outta prison"..just too funny..anyone know the rip?. Anyway, last DAC..this is close enuf..
And, again..I like to bring up old Nam crap. Might bother some, other Vets, but not me. Some seen much worse, and want not to try too bring it back, and "ignore it".. Well, to me it was very real, and too stuff pain, inside, well, its still there. Best to simply let it out..many will listen...and thanks for the "ear" here. Means more for me, to..."Let it go, over with", and a "bended ear"..too listen, ..is priceless.

When I was on M-60 every 4th was a tracer 1968-69 the Army supplied us.
Our mini's were set at 2,000 per side when delfected the one kicked up to 4,000 p/m
The airflow stickin out the door of the Huey kinda kept them cooler than yours on the ground :D
I think "Puff the Magic Dragon" C-47 was set at 6,000rpm per gun X 3.

90 miles. Me and my nephew towed both of our trailers up and set them up for the winter so we can get the sleds in and out easily once the snow flies. Hope it is soon. We need alot more cold weather to. Lake will never freeze at this rate. I dont want to have to keep trailoring them if the lake doesnt freeze. When frozen we can get to any trails right from the house

Yep they were staking out the trails here yesterday too. I got a little spoiled living in colorado with the snowmobiles.Had a buddy who lived on top of Vail pass in a yurt that I built for him(11,300 feet) Did a lot of deep powder sledding. Here it is more bashing through the ditches, not the same. We don't get the amounts of snow here we used to and the lakes and rivers aren't anywhere near freezing. The barges are still hauling grain down the river.Crazy for here.

OK, I was way off on the Mini. 2000 a minute, not 6000..don't know what made me think that..30+ a second makes more sense. Damn been 40 years, and mostly remember the 16's had a red every 6th, and not even sure of that..(heck we were either drunk, wasted, or hungover most of the time!) I DO remember when we got stuck on the perimeter in the towers around the tank farm on guard duty, we were told at odd times over the radio, to let go full firepower, 16's and 79's..maybe every 10/15 minutes. Off time was spent taking all the rounds out the clip, load up a full one with reds just for kicks. Too much fun. Also vividly remember one night, while on guard duty the farm..off a couple miles away, some Cobra jockeys were really at it.
Swear heading straight down in a spin, minis full tilt (you could see the swirling around, one each side), rockets..Just too neat to watch, as after a pull out, THEN here came the noise. :D
Heard the B-52's do there thing a couple times too. Had to be in Laos, as thats where earth basically was exploding for minutes..(that "rolling thunder")..only 40/50 miles away. I hear similar here, but only one at a time, as Ft. Lewis is about 60 miles east of me over the water, the late night artillery practice. I'll have to did up a couple pix, and another story. to come. Think quad 50's, on 'Nancy", the gun truck...monster:eek::thumbsup:

Heres a little more Nam, and this blew me away when found. About a year ago, me a the "flyboy" here were BSing choppers and guntrucks. I search a bit and came with the following. Amazing! The guy that did the link..(good read!), was leaving just as I got there! We have since been in touch, don't remember each other, but everything else we do. Second pic (in the link..not the pix I posted here)..is the truck. Last pic is me 3rd from left (pretty sure, hard to tell, but still no tan, and new green duds), next to me right, Sgt. Penn, below the pink shirt, the T/C the truck, ran the 50 cal. Forgot his name off hand. 2nd from right end, red hair.."Red"..was a the assigned 60 one side, which ever side needed.. I was the assigned Mech, and spare gunner. Heres the link..and a couple pix I took, or taken of.

God Robby the hell you guys went through is just unbelievable.

Actually, we never thought of it much, as we were support for the real fighters out in the bush. The 4th Infantry, Special Forces, Special Op's guys, firebases'
Kinda says it in the story..
"We supported the 4th Infantry division, and the air force. We moved supplies from Qui Nhon to Ainke to Pleiku north to Kontum, Dac To, and to Ben Het. We carried anything from fuel, artillery rounds, napalm, and food. If a soldier needed it we took it. "

That was our job, keep them supplied, with what needed. We were probably scared chitless, but none ever showed it..or just stuffed it deep down inside, trudge on, I guess.

Heres a link, to "Nancy"..the Quad 50 truck. Remember one day, we came around a bend in the mountains, another convey coming by us. Nancy the side of the road, was damn near up on the side wheels, the 50's just blowing smoke!

Also remember every time we passed another convoy, it was a free for all "snowball fight", but we used C-Rat cans instead..'Take that, Armor boy!":D
Insane times..

About 7 years ago I was living on my boat at a floating bar. I would bartend sometimes when the owner needed someone. One day a guy and his wife stopped in for a drink and it turned out they were driving one of the Vietnam Memorial walls around the country. They asked me where there was a good place to eat on the river and I told them "my boat" I made them t-bone steaks, potatoes, the whole works. A few weeks later they sent me a huge POW-MIA flag in the mail. Cool people.

Well guys, ya know when they say GOD works in mysterious ways...believe it!!!! I can't even go into explaining this just trust me...for whatever reason in my head today and last night I kept having a thought to fix two tiles that were missing behind my dryer, WHY, I have NO IDEA, after doing some more work on my kitchen, I went to the Home Depot to buy the tiles. I come home and pull the dryer out and start fixing the floor but I felt cold air a steady flow of really COLD air, and I kept saying WTF is going on, I pulled up the old caulking around the gas pipe and re caulked but still felt this cold air and I said something is not right. So then I decided to put dish detergent around the connections on the gas line, but didn't see any bubbles but still felt the air and low and behold I found it, a steady stream of cold gas coming out of the connection from the dryer to the gas line :eek::eek:...holy s hit, I had a MAJOR natural gas leak directly in my house...I have no sense of smell because of allergies so I couldn't smell it. I called my dad up and he came right over (I had already turned off the gas value) he said he smelled the gas before he even came in the house :eek::eek:. Who knows how long this has been going on, I guess it was a matter of time before the house would have blown up or I was dead from gas poisioning...to be honest I haven't been feeling great the past couple of weeks, very fatigued and a lot of headaches and I never get headaches. So when they say that God works in mysterious ways, believe it!!! I am sure that somewhere along the line Phil was watching over me too. I don't know why I decided to fix those tiles but since last night it was on my mind. :nonod::nonod::nonod: This could have really been a major catastrophe. I just looked up and said Thank You.

Should we continue the Nam stuff we are on? I'm loving every second of it...feels good to after 40 years, let that junk ya stuffed way deep down, in yer soul, as few would understand..and now..."let it out, its over". Got a few vids coming, and I been at this all day, dragging up stuff, long ago...but it happened, its real, and no need to thank any Nam Vet..(but VERY appreciated!)

But we got a damn fast lesson in life, as just kids, and aint no freaking "school/booking"..can make ya learn .."the real world"..FAST, with no TV, no phone, ****ting in buckets, forget what a freaking "stoplight" looks like.

I was scared to death one night. Dude comes in.."ya got a radio'phone call". Well, then if you got ANY call, its was some immediate family, who died, and if a significant other, and you were outta there in, and home 36 hours tops...(thanks flyboys..the flying back, the grieving living, or the mass body bags, in the back:thumbsup:)

Well, turns out a radio call, from a crazy friend, grew up with, both in Nam, and he's in communications, about 60 miles north me, in Chu Lai.

That SOB...'Hey, its George..(we called him "the "bubes, or Booby..have no idea why..kid thing..we all get nick names)...how ya doing? I just got here!

Basically the SOB cracked me up with that call..only phone call I ever got there..thank God.

Sue if you are at all worried the fire department can come and suck it out in a few seconds

Yep, quick call FD, just say possible gas leak..DO IT..(I know many here volunteers, FD, they will tell you to leave the house NOW!. Then let them handle it..they got sniffers, and they damn sure don't take chances. My neighbor smelled gas a few back..called..4 houses around were told to move on for a bit. Don't ..EVER take a gas leak..as no big deal..houses are blown up, when that little pilot light gets a wiff, water heater. Have a friend who delivers Propane here. Told me some good..(tragic)..storys. Call the FD, say no big rush, but I might have a gas leak. Think fixed, but? DON"T MESS WITH IT YOURSELF! Let them sniff it ..

It does NOT bother me any. Some I guess, were never prepared for a war as kids. The "easy life", if ya will. I grew up with a tough bunch, kids the "Mob", back in the Chitown. We were always looking for a good fight I guess..?

Some complain that "PTSD"..thing, and probably many have it, the nightmares, they.."never under stood just where ya was going"..hence the suicides many vets. Still continues, and stupid, as if ya left any war, just why would ya go home, and kill yerself? Dumbass. But my thoughts, will never be theres, maybe seen way more than me...and any war, does freak the brain a touch. I only speak for my self here, as thats all I got to go with.

OK..that clears that up.

Still ticks me off. Had a big Super 8 tape of vids I took in Nam. Took all the little ones, just spun them on a big roll, and heading home. They didn't make it through customs. Seems the first one on there was a regular 8 and a bit was hanging out the side, to get it started the roll up. Well, the dude spotted the two different size tapes, larger roller holes on 8, smaller on super 8. I had a short stag film at the beginning, then my stuff. Whoops!
I was told if I wanted to keep them, I would be held back, until they could review the films. Yeah right...junk'em..I'm outta here!:D

Wonder how many more vids never made it back..

For you guys: there was NOT enough done for the vets when they came back from war. There are veterans from the Vietnam war that still walk the streets here, homeless. I believe MORE should have been done for them. I am glad Robby and Bushwacker that you survived and are able to live a normal life after experiencing that war. I can tell ya that my father was on the front lines in World War 2 and he didn't survive so well. As a child I can still here him waking up out of a dead sleep with the nightmares from the war, I can still remember his screams waking him out of a dead sleep. My father lived that war every day and it affected his life here. He used to let us feel the shrapnel in his legs that couldn't be removed. He lived a normal life, but not a normal life because those days at war came back to haunt him in his sleep...

OMG I just watched this whole video, what you guys went through was unimaginable, the sickest part of it all is that the younger generation will never know about Vietnam, or the story, and what you guys went through, there will never be another Vietnam. I remember it like yesterday and I can also remember where I was and what I was doing when the war ended.

Can you explain this war??????? For what ??? The raison

Phil's other half...Sue.
11-30-2009, 09:42 PM
JP this is a little piece of the explaination of why but there is so much more, Robby and Bushwacker could explain it better than I....

The Vietnam War, also known as the Second Indochina War, was a Cold War military conflict that may be said to have occurred in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia from September 26, 1959[1] to April 30, 1975. The war was fought between the communist North Vietnam, supported by its communist allies, and the government of South Vietnam, supported by the United States and other anti-communist nations.[12]

The Viet Cong, a lightly armed South Vietnamese communist-controlled common front, largely fought a guerrilla war against anti-communist forces in the region. The North Vietnamese Army engaged in a more conventional war, at times committing large units into battle. U.S. and South Vietnamese forces relied on air superiority and overwhelming firepower to conduct search and destroy operations, involving ground forces, artillery and airstrikes.

The United States entered the war to prevent a communist takeover of South Vietnam as part of their wider strategy of containment. Military advisors arrived beginning in 1950. U.S. involvement escalated in the early 1960s, with U.S. troop levels tripling in 1961 and tripling again in 1962.[13] U.S. combat units were deployed beginning in 1965. Involvement peaked in 1968 at the time of the Tet Offensive. After this, U.S. ground forces were withdrawn as part of a policy called Vietnamization. Despite the Paris Peace Accords, signed by all parties in January 1973, fighting continued.

The Case-Church Amendment, passed by the U.S. Congress in response to the anti-war movement, prohibited direct U.S. military involvement after August 15, 1973. U.S. military and economic aid continued until 1975.[14] The capture of Saigon by North Vietnamese army in April 1975 marked the end of Vietnam War. North and South Vietnam were reunified the following year.

The war exacted a huge human cost in terms of fatalities, including 3 to 4 million Vietnamese from both sides, 1.5 to 2 million Laotians and Cambodians, and 58,159 U.S. soldiers.[15]

We need to back a long time here Sue. I read all the TimeLife books, on Nam. Just a quickie here, but the French, I think, were the first in? There were many Vietnamese/French girls there..off spring the GI's. And on the "nightmares"..are real to many, from many wars. My BIL, was a WW2 navigator, in B-24's, and 25's. His brother was there, in the war too. I have a pic here somewhere, just before he was shot down, his brother, and killed. Both standing in front of an old B-Bomber. He had 4 brothers, the one killed, one died, one still alive in Oregon, and his 85th birthday, is tomorrow.
I did not yet look at the vid ya posted, but will soon. Damn, I don't know what more to say at the moment. I love to bring up the fun times, Nam, the strong young kids, the "The Man in the Door"....but I too see when going to town, many Vets, sign out.."Nam Vet, homeless, anything helps"..street corners. Sad. And all within 2 miles , the "marbled walls"..of the State Capital.
To tell ya the truth, at the moment, I'm still worried my friend Mary, who will soon go under the knife, right side chest ripped out, replaced with "plastic/artificial stuff".
But ya know what? If not for the wounded/dead ..from Nam? We learned much in the way of medical science. They died, to help us all out. None were not gone for a reason, and more than I will never understand.
Sorry here, but I'm getting a headache.."thinking"..but will never give up same.
And Sue? Yer thread, the homicide? Damn world going nuts. We here, PNW, are solid, on that jackoff idiot, Huckabee, as Gov... let go. Scumbag walked into a shop, OWNED by a cop, and killed 4 "men/one women...in "blue"...in cold blood. One my best friends is a cop...nicest guy ya ever can meet, my Merc IL6 guru. We are still looking for that azzhole, who murdered two cops, sitting in a squad car, Halloween. Now have this lousy black azzhole, still loose. Nationwide manhunt..F*^king slimbag.
I'm beginning, to be sick of any politician, damn corrupt judges..the whole system. It aint working anymore.."I need some fresh air, and walk the dog... " Robby

Phil's other half...Sue.

Yes, I know Robby, I had CNN on all day listening about that manhunt for the F-IN POS that killed those police officers. Damn! (ya knew I had to watch ..Sue! Where did ya find that vid! Shows SO MUCH,. in so little time. The azzhole politicians, the damn protesters, who knew f^&king ZIP, what was going on there, the freaking villages, houses made out of C-Rat cardboard for a roof..damn ZERO, any sanitary..**** a ditch in a stream, down water drank it. The convoys were going,. a small village, V/N people trying to cling to the truck..running alongside..."take me outta here, please!". We had too throw..solid, HARD..(scared the crap out me, at first..why ya trying to knock out kids with C-Rat cans?...some where the innocent kids, and parents, who wanted out. and then the others..it was a unseen enemy we fought..coward bastards)

So "Red", the 60 gunner told me flat the F#@K OUT. "Dude, yer "green"..you are our new Mech, ya wrench well good this beast, and our azz, depends on that...(magically, my headache just went away...!)..and you are the ONLY MECH here. We ride rear, to do fire power support/fix/..or simply stuff those Phosphorus grenades here , on the engine block..melt it, so "they", can't use no parts. Crap hits the fan, and getting dark...torch the truck too. just grab the weapons, and ammo..rest don't count. We will call in the air support. Be back base camp in ten minutes, but those here, are still here. We live none behind, and watch their azz..'till all back safe. F^# the trucks..we will get more.
And he told me.. NEVER trust anyone here but yer own, and cover there butt, and yers. Those little bastards ya think, need "take me outta here". total bull. NEVER buy a soda off them, (poisened)..NEVER buy for a "Dong", a fresh Melon..NEVER! Little ****s there in these village, has been compromised..and they all look the same. That "Melon"..well dumbazz..that SOB probably has a grenade inside, scooped out, and plugged, the guts. Then ya give the little bastard money. And he goes home, yer dough..and the God damn f^%king "pin"
Trust me, it was VERY hard, to try and knock out a kid, a "rat" can in the forehead, the real who wanted a ride out..well, we never knew, who"s who..and never wanted to run some kid over, slips, and run over, the duels in the rear end, truck.
Damn..ya just NEVER knew, and a billion more won't get it. The "ground stuff"..we saw way too up close/personal. And no way any vid will show it either. Try this. Don't take a good hot shower for weeks, **** in a bucket, eat food, made years ago, in a can, yer wet, or dusty, hot, freezing, our all combined. Yer tired, just wanna sleep, and home base, has many blasting music, half drunk/stoned.."dude, get up , Party!". Ya just wanna sleep. The taking a quick wink, convoys, lasted just about that, a "quick".
Then ya crawl in the rack, mosquito net down.. pass out after 2/3/4 days the road..and the damn little "fire ants", are over you, and eating ya for a good dinner. War there was easy..the "conditions"..we fought in? TERRIBLE.
Weird..seems the headache, today life..went away.
If ya never did, read the book.."Dear America ..letters home from Vietnam". Super, done by Bernard Edelman...has the good . the bad, and some very disturbing. ALL real letters home. And its in chapters, so read some, both sides, Nam. Good, bad, and the ugly.
And do that firstl. Then, pick up ..(both amazon, few bucks)..here is a real shocker book. Called "..and hard rain fell", written by John Ketwig. ..(sub title is.."a true story of the Vietnam war"
He has me only 100 pages in, out 365 +. I can only read a few at a time. It was sent to me, who, "thought:"..its gotta be BS..nothing like that ever happens? Well, she is a coddled few. Old HS bud..(airhead hippie"..needs fresh air?)... Anyway, the "hard rain. is VERY GRAPHIC, in words. some who never there, say BS! I think he held his tongue ..it was much worse. Robby..(on a roll here..thanks the bended.."ear"..feels good to spit the "real"..

Wow Robby, that is something...you lived it. The Vietnam war always bothered me, it wasn't like WW2. Like you said, you could NOT trust anyone, the little kids were killers and you didn't know who they were. The mine fields alone, how many lost their life or a limb. And your right the "Deer Hunter" great movie to depict that era. How bout Hanoi Jane, and her turning her back on our troops and taking pics with the viet cong, I never liked her after that, now because she thinks she is older and wiser it oks, but it's not, she did it. As our boys and I mean boys were being slattered and killed she was takin pictures. I also think the movie the "Killing Fields" depicted that war good also. It's strange to think back and say wow that really happened, you really lived it while we all watched. This is exactly what I mean by our children will never know the reality of such a horrible war, wow got me thinkin back.

Hey Robby, GREAT TUNE!

Yes, I know Robby, I had CNN on all day listening about that manhunt for the F-IN POS that killed those police officers. This world is going crazy and the worst part is our children have to live their life out in a world that is not safe anymore, our children cannot live free, the way did, it's sad.

Sue, its VERY SAD. Like said, my Merc guru,..(many pix him somewhere here, S+F..(we are the same age, both kissing 60))..was a street cop to start, fresh out the massive training they do, to wear "the badge"
Then the years as a the "dude behind ya, road squad ride. Then promoted to detective, and now semi retired..Kinda. He is the "school resource officer" now, at the local HS. He LOVES the kids. And they love him..(as me too).
But he tells me stories, the young. who he has too bust at times. Latest was the famous QB, the football team star,..word got out, he was pushing drugs, out his locker. His future..is toast now, suspended. But he might learn something, and grow up. My buddy Thommy? The cop? I keep ripping him.."ya gotta nail it in the bud, ..(with respect, to "Barney, and Opeys dad...the "sheriff" )..times sure have changed..and not for the better..

Old GF calls.."lets GO!..OK....fired the Harley, and rode down. First time I saw the "moving Wall"...and I cannot find any vids of it..but heres, at the moment, what I did find...just too cool, too be among the "real"..again. I'll drag up some footage soon. SOMEone had to vid it. I have it on VHS, but to try, and drag here, not gonna go there. Had to be there.

The city was expecting a maximum of 125,000 marchers in the Welcome Home parade for Vietnam veterans. An estimated 200,000 showed, cheered by nearly 500,000 spectators. The parade came 11 years after the war ended. The official route ran for less than 3 miles--starting in Olive Park, named for a Vietnam War hero, and ending in Grant Park, where Vietnam War protests once raged. But the parade lasted for nearly five hours.

About 250,000 young men and women from the Chicago area fought in the protracted struggle in southeast Asia. The names of 964 Chicagoans killed in action are engraved on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington. Those who came back alive returned to an America that would not look them in the eye. Vietnam was not only a war that did not have the wholehearted support of the country; it was the first war America lost.

For the war's opponents and supporters alike, the veterans were at first uncomfortable reminders of the futility and the humiliation of the American war effort. With the passage of time, the emotions of the era cooled, and the realization dawned that, no matter the outcome of the war, the men and women who had fought in Vietnam had sacrificed for their country."During the Vietnam War, you didn't come home with your buddies," said Tom Stack, chairman of the Chicago Vietnam Veterans Parade Committee. "You got off the plane, trashed your uniform and went home through the back alley. They are coming to this parade to reunite with the rest of America."

The march gave them a voice for their emotions. "If I was asked to write a love poem today," said Vietnam veteran and poet Steve Mason, "I don't know what I'd say, but I'd mail it to Chicago."

Loral Valley, 35, of Chicago, said, "I was with the `Hell, no, we won't go' group during the war. I participated in a lot of marches. Today, it's like a catharsis. It's a way to say I'm sorry I didn't support them then."

Sitting in a chair in Grant Park, Steve Benson, 37, of Freeport, Ill., watched with his son, Mike, as the parade came to an end. "I wanted to show my son the closeness and friendships between the veterans," Benson said, "and I wanted him to meet guys that I fought with and know what we went through. . . . I think after today, I'll be able to talk about it a little more openly with him than in the past. I feel like I have had a ton of bricks taken off me. I've cried and I wasn't alone."

And this here talk.."trashed your uniform and went home through the back alley.'..damn right. I trashed all my duds, and freaking war "pins", and never told a sole I was coming home. Just sent a letter to my mom, to stop writhing ..on the way back home. Dunno when. Got back the "world", soon after. Never bothered a call, for a ride home. Got that far by my own, few more miles, meaned littte to me...the plane dropping me off, O'Hare. Took a cab home..($26 bucks, 40 miles!)..banged the damn door at home, mom answered.
Got home in May, 1970, and as..(like all moms").."why didn't ya call first?, we would come get ya?"

Simply said.."mom, on my own now, and ya taught me right, from wrong'"..and I look over at the (then fake) Christmas tree.. Its still up and lite up, 4 months later, and every damn letter I ever wrote ,my mom, were under that damn tree. I can see her sitting there Knowing her kid, kid, to come home safe, I know she sit there many nights, ..thinking..looking at that tree..simply saying....the quiet time's, her. "bring my baby home" Well, I did, and she went into the "sky", a long time ago..(RIP mom). Did the best I could..and will never change.."

Thank's for the answer.......... You are a mature and intelligent girl or better a real woman .....Nice ...JP

Robby, After you got home did you recieve any compensation? Did you get paid while you were there? Or did you just go out on your own and try and start a life? You were a machinist(I think) how long after you got back did you start doing that? Just trying to figure out how you figured out what was normal. If that makes sense? Question is for Bushwacker as well if he wants.

Think if lucky $60 a month. When out, tried to go back to school, Junior college, but took MONTHS for any reimbursement for tuition and books. Lasted 6 months, broke, got a job, or 3, then landed a good job as a Machinist at Reynolds Aluminum for 21 years. Back then, kinda lost faith with the "system", and attitude aint changed since. Managed to make it on my own, and don't regret anything. Heck, no one said life was gonna be easy:D

Remember when Mariah, hit the scene, new. GREAT voice, MUCH potential...great "good looker"..but she went down the wrong path, the "reality of a rock star", and those in the biz, screwed her head up, and more idiots, took her the wrong way. Sad. Any VH1 vids, her now, are all black azzholes, background, gold chains, backward hats..her just showing the fake, pumped boobs, and ..again, sad, as she had/HAS..so much potential. I have seen many go down, with stupid, "them, the biz"..telling them what "is best".
Again, as I'm not a C+W fan..but Taylor Swift... is a simple cutie, REAL, and got BRAINS..too tell the rest moneys mongers, off HER work..too F^&k of..she can do it alone, on her own.
Nuff me on this..gonna go down, BS real, the old Nam vet..need real speak..

Posted before, "Taylor"..but this kid has freaking class..zero boob job, zero probably ever touched alcohol, much less a drug..the kid is a natural..and probably has..REAL..proud parents,..(bet two also, and still cry, to see here sing who gave her all the help, too do well, needed..)

WHO, would not be proud, of a daughter like this..:thumbsup:
I wish her well..."just don't get caught up in the corrupt, that killed many.."

I was turned on to John Prine while we were boat camping out on a Island in Spring City Tn. in the late 70's. Every since then if there is a guitar around everyone has to hear at least 4 of his songs before I stop playing. He is performing at the Tivoli in Chattanooga in March. This could well be his last time in our town. If any of you guys from here are going let me know. We will have a before and after party.

Yes, it is very addicting....:smiletest:
When my granddaughter and her mother came in from Denmark in July and August (she had tried to get tickets for ACDC in Denmark but to no avail) she came here and guess what??? ACDC in the Meadowlands, so she traveled from Denmark and saw ACDC in N.J. she had been following their career forever.
