View Full Version : I bought a new boat........

I bought a new boat. Another STV. I have had a guy hounding me to sell him mine for some time. He finally offered more than I could refuse and I found another one with an EFI on it. So I figured why not make a profit and get a fuel injected motor also. I came out 4k ahead on the deal. I like the color better on the red boat but I really wanted a 2.5 EFI and the $4k didnt hurt either.

My e-mail is down again but I will e-mail some photos once its up again and I get some better photos. I need to buff it and do some minor repairs, but what a smoking deal! :D

AZH

That sound like a good deal. Greg doesn’t have the pictures working yet on the site, I am sure it wont be long now before he is done upgrading.

Thanks Tom. Its sweet. I finally get my red boat set up right and get it into the triple digits, and I sell it. Go figure. LOL This one should perform a bit better with EFI and the $4k will go toward part of the downpayment on the new house I am closing escrow on.
Have a good weekend.

Every once in a while I walk into a deal. I didnt do too badly on the red one, but this one I got for a song. The left bank wasnt firing and the owner didnt know jack about outboards. Niether did his "so called" mechanic. I knew is was a switchbox deal. I had a used switchbox and that fixed it right up.

A friend saw this one with a "for sale" sign on it. The price was good. The difference between what I got for mine and what I paid for this one netted me $4 grand. It was like trading even up plus cash to me. :D

Its really faded but so was the red one. Wet sanding and buffing made the red one like new so this one will look great with some elbow grease.

Regards to all,
AZH

PS Hey John, I figured out what you meant on the photo deal but how come photos can be posted from a URL but won't display by direct posting? Strange. Get yourself some speakers for the computer. I have a really funny audio file to send you.

I know that a few other great deals had gotten by you in the past.

I guess it was finally your turn this time.

Good deal, and I know you had been wanting EFI.

Hi John.

It was sent to me by someone else.

I have no idea how to do that kind of stuff. I need to learn more about that part of computers.

John, Do a web search for "avatars". You will find sites that have them free.

Speaking of avatars, I heard UT isnt using my boat for his avatar any more. I win. :D

Yea they changed there avatars but now I think they are pissing on your new boat!

News travels fast. I figured he'd still be using the red one as his avatar. He can use that one all he likes. He has my blessing. The new owner can take that up with him.

UT has posted many times that he thinks I am better than he is. Thats why he is doing this avatar thing. Interesting reason.

So they changed the avatars to my new boat eh? We will see about that....:p

I just popped over there for a look. UT still has the red boat on his avatar. He can have it...more power to him. I guess he's not as quick as I thought. Nuff said on this subject.

You must have missed his signature.

You guys are too much with that stuff.

Arizona Hotboater

I didnt miss his signature. I saw it. My point is that I told that very unhappy person that one way or another, he wouldnt be using my boat picture as his AVATAR much longer. He's using the pic of the red boat. Thats not my boat. It may be a technicality, but hey, I WIN! He can do what ever he wants with the red boat pic. It aint my boat no more. :D

KAZ, its an old fight. I didnt start it, but I never back down.

CONGRATS MARK!!

Keep an eye for sweet deal on a Euro for me now:D

Yes I followed that one on Boattrader.com and was suprised how cheap it was...but like others said ...too far for me!!!

Hey Hydrovector,
You got any pics of the euro? I had quite a time getting the red one to stop porpoising. I set it up with 7.5" setback and set the propshaft about 1/2 inch above the pad, and no more porpoise AT ALL. It wont porpoise if I try to make it do so. I did some minor height adjustments from there to get best top speed. Euros are great boats.

Anthony, thanks for all the advice.

Hydrovector,

is that your normal trim angle at speed? what numbers are you turning your EURO with a 200 (is it stock)?

I have been running my RIOT with a fair amount of positive trim and have a stock 200 running around 80-85mph GPS.

no just playing for the camera. we hit our best run at Nick-fest or 91.4 on GPS and that was with me and the wife in the boat.
It's a stock 200 with the heads cut to 33cc.

vishus
09-17-2002, 01:22 PM
that's GREAT, and the second picture appears to be alot better running angle!!!

how much setback are you running? what type (and pitch ) prop at what rpm?

sorry to ask so much, but your the closest setup similiar to my hull/motor combo (1994 RIOT / 93 200Xri with cut heads). It seems as though EVERYONE else is running at least a 2.5EFI or a S3000!!!

did setback help you get through the STV "hump" (my damn RIOT is stuck in the "HOP" stage, and that is why 85.2 on GPS with four (4) adults and a full tank of gas is as FAST as I can go! I have only been able to get to 82.1 on GPS with myself and a light tank before my boat gets to hopping....)?

still learning to drive....

I got 6 1/2" of set back. It still will start to hop when it wants too. If i just nail it form the start and trim the S--t out of it then she'll just fly. I'm running a stock 28 chopperII at 6500 rpm. I'm still learning too. this is our first year with the boat and after 26 years with a V-bottom it a big change. With kids in school (college) I can't afford one of those weekly rebuild engines!!!!!! So for now we keep running our 2.4.

...MIKE the Boat shows real well!!

I am looking at stock power on my next rig too...so I admire a rig that can run 90 on a fishing motor!!!

Are you a die hard Merc man or would you entertain the thought of an OMC for you next ride? Or how about a new 300 mPM?

Hydrovector, thats a seriously nice rig.

...Yes I am a Mercman at heart yet I know the Johnny is good motor too. My best Buddy runs em hard on his rig and its sweet for what he likes to do. Mind you his motor is a newer style 3.0 litre which he will admit is better then any other previus V6's Johnnys he has ever owned.

We always had Johnny's in our family till 1973...unfortunatley I got bitten by the sound of those "throaty" inlines in the '70's and haven't been right since:D

Again I would have to drive the Euro with the 300PM before thinkin it was a 'Sweet" setup!! I still have some concerns!!

I have had 2 STV pro comps and neither one hopped or porpoised. The engine was bolted to the transom, no setback. Run a Mazco cut for the stv and It goes like hell, ran 92 with a stock 200 on on a bass mid and cle gearcase, 29 Mazco re3. For more than 1-2 average weight people, the chopper provided more bow lift and rode real nice. With all that setback and a chopper, unless you are trying to ride alot of weight in the front, you are getting a bunch of bowlift upsetting the natural ride attitude of the STV. Try a cleaver to lift the stern with your current setup. You gotta remember, the STV was designed as a raceboat for closed course racing, natural lift and balance were built into the hull. Roark and Rusty did a phenominal job on this boat, that is why they were so successful at Mod VP.
LOL.
