Ran across these old photos and thought you Allison fans would enjoy seeing them. This was the plug for the first pointy nose 20'.

Seems like the first time I saw a new styled Allison 20 was in 1983 (84 possibly?) at Rocks Pond. I remember a friend of mine saying that it looked like a Baker although I did not agree. Hard to believe it has been that long.

Are there any dates on those pictures? That hull appears to be from a finished mold and they are creating the deck plug. Mine was made in September 1983 and I believe was #10 out of the mold.

barry was yours and the other first ones 84 models or were there any 83's. after 26 yrs still a fast hull and in my unbiased:D opinion one of the best looking ones ever built

Model year on mine is 1984. I don't know if the earlier hulls were 1983 or 1984. As I recall, they started coming out of the mold in late spring so it is likely that there were some 1983 models.

March 1983 and yes the bottom was finished, he was trying to complete the top.

LightNBug...Thanks for posting great shots of the birth of a great boat.. And pathches has added two grand understatements in one sentence. Hard to believe believe that boat is that old already.

A young friend of mine in awe of one he should still own...

Darris was finishing the bottom on the R15 I was picking up. I think he only built one more R15 after this one. The other picture is him with his camera to get a picture of the trailer. It was all stainless steel. He gave me a set of plastic Allison logo's to put on it. Always had many questions about the trailer at the races and I think he got some calls from people wanting one like it:)

Hello Jim. This was a different one. "Splash's" was compliments of the sugar refinnery in Savannah. Mine was compliments of B & W in Brunswick. His also had rounded fenders where this one had squared. My trailer is now at Jeff's and I need to go get it out of his way, but then it would be in my way:)

LightNBug you still running Allisons in the Brunswick area? I go to the Altamaha several times a year Bass Fishing. Havent seen another Allison yet. I have heard stories about how there was at one time a group of guy's in Brunswick who ran the Altamaha together in Allisons.

I've never been a supporter of non-sanctioned racing. Too dangerous for all involved. Especially in a river as narrow and as many blind bends as there are in the Altamaha. Yes, a few years ago there were many Allisons and STV's running the river. There were also some bad accidents.

Are you thinking about Larry Mumford and his group? They ran in the Hazelhurst area. Back when trees DIDN'T grow in the middle of the river.

No, I dont know of anyone around the southeast georgia coast getting together with fast boats. I had heard that there was at one time a large group in Brunswick but, I guess they are all gone or just dont boat anymore.

I didn't know that Mike. The 2002's are alot of fun. I'd like to have an XR2001 but as long as I can only afford to own one boat I think its hard to beat the 2002 for a sandbar/lake racer. Mine is finally going up for sale in a few weeks. Replacing it with another 2002

I'm wondering why Darris is wearing a purse ? Maybe it's a "mens boating purse", one of his patented inventions that never quite caught on !!!! Scott :D
