Guys please help me out and steer me in the right direction. I am currently running ride guide dual steering cables. I have the opportunity to get a sea star pro hydrolic system, what would be the advantage of me switching to the hydrolics? I have a 2.0 liter 150 Mercury. Also, at running between 55 - 60 mph the back of the boat gets very squirrelly where I have to let off the gas because I am unable to control it. The engine is currently sitting flat on the transom, and have a bob's nose cone .I have a bob's jack plate 5 inch set back with a 5 inch lift on it's way. Will this help control the boat at high speeds by getting the motor higher out of the water. I am running a laser 2 - 28p prop, is there a prop out there that will give me more of a transom lift? Will I need it after I install the jack plate? Thanks for all and any help.

The boat getting out of shape is called chinewalk and it's only controlled by driver input. So your going to have to counter the left and right rolling back and forth between strakes. The boat is getting up on the pad and is trying to balance. Here is a link that will help you with some more set up info. http://www.hydrostream.org/TechTalk/VectorMerc150.htm

No advantage to going hydraulic IF your dual cable setup is tightened so there is no slop. Solid motor mounts are a requirement too.

The Bob's plate also can be set up as a 2.5 inch setback, try that first. You are going in the right direction by raising the motor, you will notice as the motor goes up the boat becomes more stable.

What condition is the the hull? These boats have a balsa core that goes away in time due to water infiltration and a soft hull will cause funny handling.

i think hydraulic is better... you can let go of the steering wheel and it wont cut right on you with the hydraulic... and you dont have to hang on the steering wheel cruising... i would get the pro its a great system:thumbsup:

i think hydraulic is better... :iagree:

The Pro system is the chit, but dual cable is fine too, and he has it already.

im running regular sea star steering not the pro and i have no problem driving my boat... the pro is alot better its got more response...you sure can counter steer... just get in it easy and once you feel it goin to one side bump the steering wheel to the other and get the feel of it... you cant just go get on the pad and once it starts walkin just jerk the wheel in every direction you gotta feel the boat:thumbsup: "BE ONE WITH THE BOAT":p it takes time
